its a preview release and I know you know that , saying its not for you makes no sense to me ,its only in pre-release ,it to early to say its not for me .[Wenda]I've been running Win 10 full-time for seven weeks now, so I certainly cannot be accused of 'not giving it a chance', and regular readers and fellow members of SevenForums or EightForums will be well aware that I'm not 'frightened' of any OS merely because it is different. Although the OS itself is reasonable enough to use and all my programs work (it allowed me to keep ALL my programs when I installed it as an upgrade over the 8.1.1 setup, without any hitches at all, which IS one big plus-point in 10's favour), the many niggles and dislikes were, well... many, niggly and disliked.
A while ago I had made a video on how to install the tools for Mint Mate. Maybe that helps.

These are the Mint Terminal commands you will need. Note, you have to extract vmware-tools-distrib to the desktop.
cd Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib
sudo ./vmware-install.pl -d
Excellent. Sometimes it is the little things. And thanks for the reps.
The main issue is a combination of a slow HDD (both source and target are only 5400 rpm drives, but an SSD upgrade is planned for the near future) and a LOT of installed games (originally installed to test compatibility with 8/8.1, and not yet removed). The actual recovery process is extremely simple, and much faster than a clean re-install. Without the games, recovery times are in the ball-park you indicate.
Yes, all data is on a separate drive(s), and is also backed-up separately as well.
Anyway, I'll download a copy of the latest build next time I visit my friend with the unlimited connection, and give it a look-see.
Wenda.
