Yes, your plan, as outlined earlier, if using DBAN in place of even full-format, will work. Again, I think the new owner will be too busy putting his/her own software and data-stuff to even care about what used to be on the hard-drive your stuff to launch extensive sector by sector reconstruction.

    Getting OS onto new HDD

How do I get my copy of Windows OS onto the new HDD? I don't have the original CD?

Mark it as solved if you have not.

Remember that the board on the drive needs to be destroyed. It holds the last 1GB of accessed data.

Large drives I tear them apart to get the two magnets, then pull the platters and board.

I then put some gas and a little extra like PVC/CPVC primer into a metal dish and set on thr drive, light and then put in the board and torch the platters, so that nothing can be salvaged.

bro67, it's good that you have a dark humor. You remind me of "funny as a t..d in a punch bowl". Anyway, you're sharp and intelligent.
    Good luck in future endeavors.

I torch the platters and the circuit board for a reason. Most of the drives I am pulling for people, contain very sensitive financial data and just wiping them with Dban is not enough, nor the agreement with them that I have. Physically destroying them by fire, is the only way to make the units incapable of having the data salvaged.

Plus the magnets come in really handy for other stuff.
