Hi Solar and welcome to 10forums.
W10 can work just fine without or with limited internet connection but a problem could be aggressive MS update pushing and specially upgrades which can go over 4GB each.
As if it will work on your computer, check first if drivers are available for all of it's parts. Lot's of drivers are included but some require good internet connection to be updated during and right after windows installation.

    Hi,

I can sympathize with you as we in South Africa also do not have permanent good connectivity available ALL the time.

My advice would be to only try the update when you know you have very good connectivity available, and if you start the process , do not disconnect until it has completed. It takes quite few hours for the upgrade to complete and then get all the updates. Then you will need to ensure the PC does not try and update automatically as soons as you connect.

Fortunately, there are very useful tutorials on this forum to help with this rather steep learning curve.
If at all possible, rather install the WIN 10 Pro version as this version gives you much more control over your PC than the WIN 10 home version ( ar at least, that is how I perceive it to be).

Thank you both for the reply's it seems no easy fix guess that's Microsoft for you i think im going to need to wait as i don't think my pc will have drivers for win 10. i already looked into a sound driver and they don't have one for my M/board .
I also heard that win 10 has to have a connection to the net all the time ? is this true.

again thank you for the help

You may need for internet for short time just to activate windows at the beginning. After that you can run with local account without internet connection. You can also turn off most almost all of location and reporting services to save on bandwidth. There's also a setting for metered internet connections.

I am not a fan of Windows 10.
and you are right, it is ugly and in my opinion doesn't offer anything worthwhile over Windows 7 or 8. I suggest getting GWX Control Panel (google it), and install that. It will remove the Windows 10 nag problem, and remove items that auto download 10. The only real way to get away from the 10 nag problem it to install 7 Ultimate or Windows 8.0 (not 8.1). For whatever reasons MS doesn't include those in the update to 10 category. Perhaps not enough people use it to bother with.

Lon Seidman (well known youtube previewer) suggests another 10 nag remover (never10 I think is the name). He just released a vid not long ago about it.

It is impossible to build an interface that everyone likes. Not possible when you bare dealing with billions of users and billions of opinions. The interface is easily changed if you don't like it, so it's a minor quibble at best.

As for the lack of internet, it isn't a problem once the computer is activated. We have computers at work that are denied internet access for security protocols based on the nature of their roles. The connect to a specific network that restricts internet access, and they work fine.

Personally i like the look of Windows 10, except for the tiles and Metro so i replaced the W10 startmenu with ClassicShell. I'm sure this is said before, if W7 works for you, don't upgrade.
