having 1700 post doesn't mean anything, its the same as a "show us your desktop" thread, people just post in there to show off.

Imo the wei score pretty useless as new hardware is released about every 6 months, shortly after the release of windows 7 anyone with the latest high-end hardware and a ssd would of maxed the wei score. plus the wei didnt really give you a lot of useful information about your hardware.

@Trust_No1 can you tell me what info did wei provide that would help you purchase any computer hardware.
In 2010 I built 4 new systems all moderately powerful and there was no way I was buying an SSD at 2010 prices. Last year was the first year prices became mainstream and I have one in most of my 9 PC's now. Your opinion is ill informed.
WEI is actually run during set up as part of the configuration set up in 7, and 8.1 and the scores can still be read by the third party software. If the score changes you can investigate if something is failing. A large amount of information can be gleaned from the scores if you know where and what to look at. Oh see what I did you are ill informed again.

Over 1700 postings. That's a lot for an 'unpopular' function.
When you add together all 4 of the "Show us Your WEI" threads posted at 7 forums you get 8709 postings which is mind boggling as to why this would be an unpopular function.

So since you didn't get a ssd until recently that mean no one else did? This is like the people that say no one like windows 8 just because they didnt like it.

the scored could change just from you updating drivers. the point is that the info that wei gave isnt very useful. and if you have failing hardware you will have obvious signs without the need for wei.

It still seems weird to me that a 3D engine has better performance rendering "3D" than 2D.

Why? A 3D engine has a powerful co-processor. 2D is rendered by the CPU which is busy doing other things as well.

Maybe you are missing it's real purpose. Yes, it gives a lame benchmark. But, when I would go to a site to purchase something, ram, cpu, etc. there are so many variables, that I found it invaluable when someone listed their stats. example, an intel i7/i5/i3 cpu can come in many varieties especially when comparing to AMD processors. Or comparing graphic cards, or ram, or even total builds. If you are building a new system, all the information you can get is helpful.

When I buy a car I read reviews and compare it to other cars, who doesn't. So it is the same here.

And everyone with a Windows machine had it, so it was universal, unlike trying to compare to someone else's benchmarks, which you might use or not use, that is what is useless.
You are not the everyday computer user. You must put things into perspective. We are enthusiasts and WEI gives the average user and experts a Point Of Reference. Geeeeez Loueeeez!

    Aha!

I assumed that the graphics card was in charge of the graphics.

WEI has always been just a subjective benchmark. As with all benchmarks, it does not really mean anything. However benchmarks are fun for enthusiast. Check out the benchmark threads on sevenforums

    http://www.sevenforums.com/benchmarks/

Everything from your CPU, GPU, and RAM performance can be measured. Even browsers are compared. While day to day use of a computer use does not justify benchmarking, we all know we want to get as much out of our systems as we can.

Each benchmark can give an indication of what you can expect from certain hardware, gives a basis of comparison and helps in choosing which components to buy.

Well, in some cases, 2D is actually "accelerated" by the 3D engine. For instance, WPF uses the 3D processor to do this. But it's still 2D in the end, the 3D is just helping it along.
