As a long time overclocker, I have used many benchmark programs and found many limitations with them but WEI gives you squat in terms of benchmarking. Even "regular" (and much more comprehensive ) benchmarks are not full show of computers (and component) capabilities, First, most of them are biased to one or other make of system, specially benchmarks for particular CPU or GPU, heavily stacked in favor of one make, even for subtypes of same model.
Second, only same version of a benchmark program, using on same HW while checking drivers or OCing can give you accurate results, even subtle changes in a benchmark program can change the way it's performing.
Third, I have seen many computer /benchmark/game combinations give conflicting results. Benchmark can give you fantastic scores but a particular game could drag as a snail and vice verso.
I have yet to see WEI give a top score even with SSDs in RAID 0 which is lightning fast comparing to single SSD let alone HDD. Wander what does it take to satisfy WEI to give a top score ? Difference between a HDD and SSD is barely couple of points but we all know what real difference is in normal use.
WEI is also so coarse as a benchmark that even comparing two computers looses any meaning. Using lowest score to determine a computer's performance is as ludicrous as comparing two cars by performance of their radios.

I have to concur with the Count on all counts...

I played with the idea of writing a universal app (mainly as XAML can provide really cool aesthetics) using Winsat but realised it's not worth the effort - If it were, I'm sure MS would have revived it by now... the component is still there after all.

Go on then, post it here (I did) or make a "Show us your WEI" thread - I don't think there is one here yet.

I don't know - radio performance is pretty important to me... Less important than usually starting but more important than the color or top speed or whatever.

You can always put a jack under the radio and change everything around it.

having 1700 post doesn't mean anything, its the same as a "show us your desktop" thread, people just post in there to show off.

Imo the wei score pretty useless as new hardware is released about every 6 months, shortly after the release of windows 7 anyone with the latest high-end hardware and a ssd would of maxed the wei score. plus the wei didnt really give you a lot of useful information about your hardware.

@Trust_No1 can you tell me what info did wei provide that would help you purchase any computer hardware.
First off, it was free, and a quick way to check performance. I didn't have to spend $80 on something to tell me the same basic info.

Someone earlier stated no one posted their stats in this thread. Duh, it is a Windows 10 / 8 forum, it doesn't exit. Personally I would love to compare my 8 stats machines to my Windows 7 stats machines. Would they report the same?????

My main usuage was graphics cards or CPUs
let us say an i5 xxxx vs. i5 xxxxx, yes they might be i5 but have different features
also in overclocking I would often do a test to see the differences
I also used the test to see if something was installed properly, if it failed WEI (which happened on occasion) I would re-install, I found if it didn't work in WEI, then I probably would have problems later.

I already said I would look at other peoples stats, and they would also list their builds, so it gave me insight as to what my new machine might use. This is my preference, if I use it, so what, why not make it available if people want to use it.

It was rumored at one time, the reason they removed it was because of the low performance of the Surface units. Which the RTs weren't that great.

If a person doesn't use it, they (or some) seem to think it is useless to everyone else, who made them the ultimate decision makers?

Let's not go to personal level of preferences, let's stick to facts. WEI gives very little information, it's too coarse and is not a measure of performance. There are many, much better benchmarks that will give you detailed performance numbers that mean something. It started as an internal utility to set graphic details during windows setup and than made available to the public. It didn't even detect difference in graphics potential when I switched from AMD HD 3850 Top to R7 260 which is like 5 times better in graphic benchmarks and games. Even business graphic score didn't go up with later card being at least 1.5 times higher frequency than older one (300 MHz to 450 or more depending on load).

WEI wasnt very optimized, if you was to compare 2 i5 at stock speed that are different models you would mostly get the same score and unless it was a massive OC the score wouldnt increase by more than one point at most when overclocking cpu.
