    Moving download folder

    Hi,
I have moved the download folder (win10, 2004) from the C drive to a backup drive and now I have 2 download folders.
When I delete files/folders in the original folder on C it also deletes the same files in the moved folder on the backup drive.
    Why is that?

Did you do it this way --

(I'm not endorsing this method. I'm just trying to learn if there's a trick to it.)

    Yes, exactly like that.
The move worked fine except that I cannot delete the old folder without deleting the new folder too.

This article implies that the reason your old folder is still 'there' is that now it's a sync'd shortcut of sorts --

How To Move Downloads Folder To Another Drive Windows 10 (Easy Way)

-- so if your goal was to free up space on your C drive, I'd doublecheck if the original Download folder actually takes up any space. My hunch is that it's simply a shortcut folder, and therefore need not be removed.

Well, I used the old copy & paste routine.
    Thanks for the input.

As the link in Post #4 suggests, you have to Move the folder using the Location tab in it's Properties. This will overwrite any files you have in the Download Folder on the Backup drive if they are the same.

That is exactly what I did!
The move was not the problem, it worked fine.
The problem was that I could not delete files in the original folder because the files in the target folder were deleted too.
But it works now, thanks to copy&paste.
    Thanks to y'all.

I just leave the standard download folder alone but specify my own location in Chrome.
