What the hell, upgraded to Windows 10 & no music will play!

Upgraded to Windows 10 just now & I can't play any sound. None from my music player or video players (video runs fine), sound from youtube doesn't work either.

Beeps & clicks when selecting folders & stuff DO WORK.
I updated the sound drivers & restarted again & still nothing.

The pop up for my Potplayer video player said this:

"It is not possible to play the audio.
DirectX audio driver is not installed or not installed correctly."

When I play a audio file on my foobar, a menu window pops up to Preference > Playback > Output menu.
The Output Format option is completely greyed out.

Can someone help? My video player was supposed to not need external codecs to play sound.
For that matter if I did install codecs it was years ago & have no clue on where to look.
Why the heck did Windows 10 just delete or disable all my working codecs, including the ones pre-installed on my video player?

I DO NOT want to install DirectX bloatware from their website if I don't have to.

Reinstall that player. I don't know about yours but my VLC keeps on working from W7 > W8/8.1 > W10 without loosing codecs.

    That worked.
But now I have to figure out how to reinstall all my plugins & components.

Goody, BTW, which player are you talking about ? Some like VLC and Daum have internal codecs and do not install them in the system. Others may not work like that and install codecs needed in the system and that may be run over by built in W10 codecs after an applicable system update.
W7 had some built in and others you had to install yourself, XP had next to none.
You can find lots of codec packs here: Download Codecs Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks

Note- if you're talking about browser plugins (I'm not sure) - the default Edge browser doesn't currently support any. Yet.
