I've got 40G of permanent, free OneDrive storage and have an additional 100G of temporary storage that I was given when SkyDrive became OneDrive. I have never even considered using any of that additional temporary storage since I did not want to become dependent upon it especially true since it is due to expire in 2 days.

Unless MS wants to permanently give me additional storage, I don't care.

They "just about all" are playing like drug dealers with this free storage stuff :)
But of course the tiny storage capacity devices on the market pretty much set the tone

This really isn't a negative thing - MS markets the OneDrive storage as an additional revenue stream. You don't have to take the offer.

It's these additional revenue streams that make offering Win10 as a free upgrade a real possibility. MS isn't going to lose revenue on this, they have plenty of services to offer that will make up for the year's 'loss' in Windows revenue. Keep in mind that the free upgrade applies to Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 - All of those XP users will have to license up to take advantage of the offer ... so MS can't lose.

The other thing MS has done in preparation for Win10 is they have moved Windows 7 ISO off of Digital River (or changed the Digital River servers). They've been doing this for a while.

To get the Win7 ISO now, you have to go to: Microsoft Software Recovery and enter a license key to download the ISO. This is a preemptive strike against piracy.

I don't have anywhere near a 100 Gbs that I would want to store on OneDrive.

It's not a bad thing for me at least. Free 100GB increase for two years and 1.99 or so per month with tax after that is not that expensive. Yes, there are options but heck.. for now this is good.

It is a good thing for those needing that much storage space and at $1.99 plus tax not a bad price.

True, 100GB is a lot of storage but for me I would like to have that much so I don't have to have a spare drive and being on the cloud it provides me with very a very solid disaster recovery tool. Heck, I can upload all of what I need to recover and restore my PC without much of an issue. And at 1.99/Plus Tax is cheap insurance, IMO.

As Jimbo pointed out, speed and data usage are a big problem when using OneDrive, I have many GB's of photo's which I have digitized over many years, and for the last 15 years using digital cameras have lots of folders which I would like to upload to OneDrive but alas OneDrive can't do that, so a very tedious process to upload making more folders on OneDrive.

    Hopefully that will change ...
You don't need to create folders on OneDrive or upload things individually. Assuming you don't want to move the folders containing your photos permenantly into OneDrive directory on your PC you can just copy them there temporarily. Once they have all uploaded you can stop synching those folders - they will be deleted from the OneDrive directory on your PC but remain in the cloud. The folder structure will remain the same.

It might take a long time to upload but it doesn't really matter - you can just leave it running for a few weeks until it is done. I uploaded about 40GB of music and it took just over a week but that might be because my internet speed is rubbish.

Just invest on a 128GB usb 3.0 flashdrive. You can recover everything you want 100x faster offline (anywhere) for a one time cost of $50+.

Even better, you could buy a 1TB USB external hdd for not much more. Amazon.com: WD 1TB WD Elements Portable USB 3.0 Hard Drive Storage (WDBUZG0010BBK-NESN): Computers & Accessories
