Upgraded to Ten, need a new computer

I mainly use the Asus laptop for emails, surfing, and vids. Since loading Ten a few months ago I've found that the CD driver, my scanner, and much of my audio capabilities aren't recognized by Ten. Now I'm finding that emails, surfing, and vids are ALL I can do.

Which model of laptop do you have? Generally W10 is pretty good at running on older laptops, having said that the ASUS drivers do not get updated very well for W10 so that may be why you are having problems.

I'm not sure what the problem would be, but it sounds like you may have missing drivers. Since you did the upgrade and are now activated (I'm assuming), this would be a great time to get all your necessary drivers on a flash drive and then do a clean install.

Dealing with Asus can be a pain , I know from experience. You SHOULD be able to find drivers from the parts vendors, though it is a tedious process. I know..... went through this with my G74sx when upgraded to 7. I am a little surprised that the generic drivers in 10 didn't work though. What does your Device Manager look like?

Asus Support Download, if they don't have Windows 10 drivers try window 8.1 drivers otherwise search each manufactures website for windows 10 drivers. Asus seems to not be interested supporting windows 10 for notebooks that are out of production and warranty. If you still can't get your notebook up an running as it was. I would just reinstall Win 7 or what ever windows you had that was working. There is a tutorial here and in the 8 forum to stop win 10 from upgrading your notebook to 10. My G75VW with great effort would mostly work on 10. I have chosen to stay with win 8.1 where everything works. In spite of MS pushing in every way they can windows 10 some especially notebook just won't function on ten. Asus especially is not being helpful with win 10 drivers.

External devices Scanner, printers etc will need win 10 drivers from each of there manufactures if the native 10 drivers don't work. IE if you have a HP scanner get the win 10 driver from HP website.

From my research into how to solve these problems, I'm finding that I'm far from the only one having these problems. And not just on Asus laptops. Right now it seems as though I have two options. Buy a new laptop or wait for the class action suit and hope I'm included.

No need to buy a new laptop or wait for a class action lawsuit that's never going to happen. Find your drivers from the individual manufacturer's, and clean install Windows 10. Problem solved in about 2 hours of work.

My computer either doesn't recognize my drivers or tells me they are operating normally. Neither is true. I'm also guessing that some people could solve the problems in less than two hours. I also know first hand that there are some people who can't solve them after many hours. Of course, I could simply pretend that 10 is a wonderful program and do without the functions I've lost.

Did you do the free upgrade? If yes try doing a clean install. You can get install media here, https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/home Clean install the exact same version that is installed now and it will activate with a digital entitlement. Just click skip when asked for a key. If you upgraded from Windows 8 or 8.1 and your laptop has an OEM embedded key, the Windows 10 install media will use that key automatically. I have a K75DE that shipped with Windows 8.0. I can clean install Windows 10 and all my hardware works with the default Windows installed drivers. You may have to let it sit for a few minutes until it updates the drivers via Windows update. A clean install in most cases clears up issues that arise from an upgrade. ASUS only list Windows 8 drivers for my laptop. It never shipped from the factory with Windows 10 so they are under no obligation to supply Windows 10 drivers.

No need for a new computer if those devices do not work with 10. If those hardware items have not been supported by the manufacturer for a very long time, there will not be any way to make them work with 10. If they worked with your prior OS, then stick with it. No need to upgrade to 10 at this point.

I replaced my printers about every five years when I was still using Inkjets. The last one I just replaced, was because Laser printers have come down so much in price and that we were only using our All-in-One Inkjet for mainly scanning, but hardly any printing, so I was just wasting money on ink cartridges.
