If you want to show Date on the taskbar with small icons you can do this easily by following these steps:
    1. Right click on the taskbar and uncheck the checkbox which says “Lock all taskbar“.
    2. Drag the edge of the taskbar and make it a bit wider till you see the date and time clearly.
    3. Right click on the taskbar and check the checkbox which says “Lock all taskbar“.

And if you want to display Date and time by disabling small icons you can still to that, for more infomation on how to manage date on windows taskbar read this.
I can find no way of doing step 2 i.e. expanding the taskbar.

    @Bingus
Hi you can use a program called T-Clock to get the date while you have smal icons on your taskbar.

You can get it from here.
    https://github.com/White-Tiger/T-Clock

Lots of settings in this smal program.

These settings are pretty close to what edwin has in his taskbar
Only difference is that he has big letters in the begining of day & month, probably because he is using a diffrent font.

Pretty sure this is what Edwin & brotherboard is using to get the date showing up while having a smal taksbar.
Could be a diffrent program aswell idk, but since neither of them can remember i would say this is what they use.

    Thank you very much, xTL,

Great, it works. Very nice program.

Do you know how one could show the calendar vertically instead of horizontally:

    You get this

Ah yes, the amount of months make it. So there does not seem to be an explicit option for vertically or horizontally display.

But the Win calendar seems to show a single month only. No configuration available obviously.

Thank you very much for the screenshots.

You can easily expand the taskbar by just clicking on the edge and dragging it.
