I think the greatest pitfall of the Charms Bar was that settings for individual apps changed inside the Charms Bar for each individual app, and so many users didn't, or perhaps, still don't realize that.

    Agreed.
It would always pop out and cover the window buttons whenever I got anywhere near them.
The Charms icons on my Win 8.1 machines pop out but don't cover the Windows buttons UNTIL I hover over one of those icons which then causes the bar itself to display so it doesn't hinder anything.

I neither love nor hate the Charms but thought they were a clever way of adding functionality.

Prior versions 9879 start menu with the current versions search default
No bing web suggestions or at least a real easy way to turn them off,
No bing image of the day listing or at least an easy way to turn it off.
No popular now or at least an easy way to turn it off,

Better tools to identify older mother boards capabilities for fast startup and sending commands to wake hdd's on startup or hibernation..
When shutting down a pc win-10 should do just that and release all hooks on external drives and other internal drives as all prior version have done in the past. safe to remove device should would properly.

In the W8 Previews, the Charms bar would just pop out whenever I got near the top right corner.
It was one of the "features" that made using W8 annoying.
The other main annoyance was the Start Screen.

The first things I changed on the W8.1 Enterprise Preview were:
    • Disable the horrible corner popouts
    • Change from "Show Start Screen" to "Show All Apps"

I find all of those auto-pop out things annoying.
I loathe web pages with those auto-popout menus.

That's one of the features of the charms bar that I disliked the most. I for one just would run into that all of the time and the charms bar would pop out when I didn't need it to.

I'm glad it's gone but I can see that if it were an option I could chose or not there would not be an issue for me at least.

for me the new notification thing in the system tray is just annoying and i wish it wasnt there. they should make a way to disable if users want to. do you agree?

I could live with that as an option.

It's possible MS may give us that choice by the time Win 10 goes final.

For some reason I doubt it but it would be nice. All of this needs to go to the feedback so MS knows what we want and what we don't.

MS also need to start listening to their customers this includes feedback and importantly improvements because thats what seems to be one of the main problems now. If they did this earlier MS wouldn't be focusing so much on the mobile market like they are now (not fully).
