Just out of curiosity, what would Dell charge for the DVD?

It may be the best way to go back, considering the circumstances.

A few years ago, I followed an online recipe to install XP on a laptop with an SLI BIOS code. I suppose that something similar may exist for newer versions of Windows, with newer bulk licensing schemes.

I personally do not use "I" anything but I think there would be more complaints about I Tunes and 10 around the web.
OK, thanks. I'm heartened by the fact that you've used the same laptop with Win10. I think i'll go for a new Win10 install and then take it from there. I'll check out for Dell system upgrades after reinstalling.

    Thanks for your help everyone!

I have a Dell Latitude E6520 which came with Win 7 Pro OA installed. I upgraded to Windows 10 when prompted to do so by the Windows pop-up last Autumn.

It worked pretty well for a while but there are ongoing issues with sound and with iTunes and I need these for my work so I would like to just go back to Win 7, even though more than 1 month has passed.

I tried to download the Win 7 iso to help do this, but when I tried from the Windows iso site (at Windows 7) I got the error message "The product key you've entered appears to be for software which was pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

I did contact Dell support but they say I would have to buy a Win7 CD from them at some cost.

Is this really necessary? I just want to revert to Win 7.

You can get iso from here. If you have an adblocker, turn it off to support the guy providing a great service. These isos are legit ie no malware.

You need a COA key to activate these isos.

The only thing I would get from dell is that A19 bios if you are not at that level already.

They quoted me £30. I'm going to reset the computer to Win10 first and then see how it goes like this.

I am writing from a 6520 and I have 0 ZERO issues with it on 10. I would suggest a few things.

    Get the newest BIOS
Dell Latitude E6520 System BIOS Driver Details | Dell US

Do a clean install and use this to update your drivers.

I have sold 3 of these to customers in the last month with no issues.

As big and bulky this model is I love the quality of this laptop.
    Hi again Porthos,

I've reset the Dell to original Win10 deleting all apps. I'm trying to update the bias using the link you gave me, but it says I need to upgrade to A08 first. Can you tell me what this means or how to do it?

Didn't really need to ask that. I've sorted it now. Thanks for your help. I'll see how Win 10 goes now with the 6520 and iTunes.

Returning to this thread a bit late, but £30 strikes me as dear. I know that computer stuff is generally more expensive in the UK than in the US, but that's still expensive.

There are so many, often random, weird things that happen with 10 that I am reverting - for the second time - to 7.

Ten has been a nightmare: since installing it (twice) and also on a brand new Spectre laptop I have spent quite literally hours every day trying to make it do what it's supposed to do.

Programs disappear from the program folder: the All Programs list shows the folder as empty, "properties" says its got zero bytes yet uninstall says it can be done - but nothing happens if you try to. A second attempt says I must wait until the uninstall finishes - and then locks the computer so firmly that I have to pull the power to get it to reboot!

Each time I boot the sequence is different, and sometimes the numlock is activated sometimes not.

Updates on the laptop have disrupted my internet: the latest one gets to run for hours then says it failed and tries again: this has been going on for a week, the internet slows to nothing because of it and it's used at least 30Gb.

The very worst part is the update policy: Microsoft have taken away your control over it and you have no idea what is downloading. Not acceptable even for those with fast internet, but a total disaster for millions with only 1.5MBs.
