Currently using NextPVR, and it seems to be working well. I tried SichboPVR, but it's not finding any channels after doing a scan of my ASUS EHC3-150 BDA ATSC tuner.

Update: The developer of SichboPVR was quick to respond to my support email. Apparently, the driver is to blame, and isn't something that can be solved without getting a different tuner. So, NextPVR it is.

I am aware of the demise of Mediacenter in the upcoming Windows 10 but right now I have it installed on different computers in my home (including 1 laptop). None of them will now update the guide? Is that something to do with Microsoft abandoning Mediacenter? One of my Windows 8.1 is strictly a DVR with 4 tuners. I wasn't planning on updating that computer for fear of loosing Mediacenter, but if they stop supporting tv guide updates, it will make no sense for me to keep it.

Is it just a fluck that I haven't been able to update the tv guide in Mediacenter? Or has support for that ceased already?
This seems to be a problem with OHIO guide data, as several other OHIO residents have mentioned it. Try using a different, but local zipcode.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is the relationship between media centre and media player?

There isn't any. Media Center is the DVR functionality, Media Player just plays videos.

Are they both being dumped with the onset of W10?

No, only Windows Media Center is discontinued, although by default media is opened in the new Movies & TV app.

I have one of my pc's at the museum where I am a volunteer, it runs W7, and in the workshop we use media player to play music. I am in two minds whether to upgrade it to W10. Can the music files easily migrate to another player?

Media player is fine, no changes to that
The new media player should also just pick up your music, not sure about play lists though, if you use them

Silly me, I was looking under M and it's Windows Media Player. I also noticed Groove Music, which would seem to be similar.

Also Media Center can play DVD's. Media Player, can't.
