I bricked my system like a champ

I was playing around with the W10TP registry and bricked the system so good that I could not even reset to a restore point that I had made nor to an AOMEI OneKey image. And I usually always backup my VMware system folders - but in this case I forgot.

Lesson learned - always backup your system folder if you run your system in VMware Player or vBox. That takes only a few minutes and you can easily backpaddle.

In the meantime I have reinstalled W10TP and installed all updates and my programs, copied folders from the host and made all my usual settings. I can toggle start menu/screen again and the start is cleaned up. I am becoming a real pro in that.

When I first read the title I thought you bricked the Mobo, I too had to do a refresh and reinstall all 3rd party programs and Store Apps after the Start Menu and Notification center stopped working at all for some unknown reason, System Restore and rebooting did not fix the problem either.

So I learned the same lesson as you the 2nd time around and made both a Macrium and AOMEI Backupper Image.

Also when I use VMware I usually copy the Virtual Machine Folder and selected OS's within to an external drive just after installation so if the VM I am currently using goes south I can just replace it and update as needed.

I also had a problem with the Action Center. It just suddenly stopped working today. It's very unexpected and happened before I can even create a backup. But this time I have a different backup approach. I clean installed it on a spare 80GB spinner. Set it up the way I want to. Installed my programs and then clone it to an SSD. If I run into another problem, I will just overwrite and re-clone the SSD. It only takes 10mins max to clone.

Trying to fix issues at this point for something in preview stage is a complete waste of time.
