Windows 8.1 Enterprise to Windows 10?

    Hi,

I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise and would like to upgrade to Windows 10. I understand that it isn't possible directly, but I do have an unused Windows 7 key that I can use. Is it possible to perform the upgrade without having to do a fresh install?

    Regards,

    Matt.

The best would be to do clean install and enter your 7 key.

However (as you said you don't want to) what you can try is changing the edition before you upgrade:

Open up regedit (search for it in the start menu), go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" and change "EditionID"to"Professional" and "ProductName"to"Windows 8.1 Pro"

Upgrade then activate with Windows 7 Pro key. If your 7 key is not 7 Pro then you'll need to use the equivalent names in the registry for the 7 key that you have. Windows 8.1 EditionIDs? - Super User

I don't now if would work but it should do. Make sure you use the correct Windows 10 ISO (Home or Pro) for your 7 key - Ultimate and Pro -> 10 Pro, everything else is 10 home.

The only upgrade from 8.1 Enterprise is Windows 10 Enterprise and that isn't free. You can use your Windows 7 license to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, but be aware you will lose the enterprise features.
