    Now, I am little concerned. I was just about ready use windows 10 more. Now, I am thinking of totally removing it. See, I also have a dell that had its motherboard replaced do to an electrical surge. Windows 10 wasn't installed till way after that replacement with my multiple boot system. My dell system isn't the same model but it is still an all-in-one. If an operating system or driver could damage the motherboard, Windows 10 needs or the driver needs to be recalled as soon as possible.

    @angrycompowner

    Is your hard drive a ssd or hdd? Mine is an hdd which might be the difference.

    Do you have access to the dell drivers cd that should of came with the computer? There is a way to possible re-flash the bios using the driver disk tools normally I don't recommend flashing the bios, I consider that the last resort. I am not sure how to do that, I only did it once. I can't remember what I did. Once, you get into the bios installed, reboot into the bios and disable secure boot. Reboot computer if it boots into windows 10 either roll back to previous operating system or disable/uninstall dell driver update tools and let windows update handle them. My experience for the limited time I used windows 10, is all in one dells that are upgrade to windows 10 do better with driver from windows update then from dell. Ironically, Dell provides the drivers to Microsoft to use with windows update.
    The computer didnt come with any install disks it was pre installed there was a section with options to revert to factory revert to earlier and something else ( cant remember now) but thats about it and it has a hdd 2 tb wasnt even partly full 1.70 empty out of 1.80 i never put anything on my computers except programs anything personal i put on my external hard drives

    I personally don't think Windows 10 would kill a computer. It has to be something like perhapse a user error. I'm not putting the blame on anyone here but even I was hesitant at first before I changed mine over.

    simply download a win8.1 iso on a working computer ,and burn it to a dvd or usb and boot to it and reinstall win8.1,if it has uefi bios you could run into issues with getting it to boot to the device ,but that can be done by changing setting in the bios ,, from reading this whole thread ,I think you are still this issue because you have yet to have it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing .
    link to tool need to download win8.1 iso .

    rufus tool to create bootable win8.1 usb thumbdrive install ,usin the iso you downloaded

    Please, report back your status when done. I am curious if you got it fix & how you got it fixed (Step by step if possible). As, I said above I have an All-in-one Dell different model. Right now, I have totally stopped using windows 10 until I see what happens with your computer.

    my mother board is dead it wasn't compatible with the windows 10 update but the compatibility test passed so i assumed it was safe
    Well, it was probably not Windows 10, but something fried your MB. Are you positive it is dead? Usually Dell systems have any number of diagnostic lights or beep codes.

    It's possible your Power Supply fried, I had a Gateway Laptop I was installing Hackintosh to and my power supply fried during install. The whole Power section got fried out, and no way to replace just that, it's on the MB.

    But a Desktop particilarly an XPS system will have Diagnostic Lights on the back maybe. You might have to buy a new power supply if the main board won't power on at all.

    Open the box, plug it in and turn on. See if tyhe power supply is running. Then check for beep codes. If the power supply is not running, then that's your culprit. Fortunately you can replace the power supply, check Newegg. If the system has a proprietary power supply, then google the system for a used power supply.

    I am in the same boat as angry comp. The sad part is my warranty expired 12/25/15 and then this happened within a week after. I tried to get Dell to renew my warranty since I received the on screen message prompt / option to do so. Only Dell sent me an email reply saying my computer was too old. It's only 2 1/2 years old. I had upgraded successfully to Windows 10 on 12/15/15 and fell in love with it. And then my mb goes out. Naturally I assumed this failure was caused by the upgrade. Other research shows the mb for the Dell XPS 2710 has a known issue with the mb, which is likely why Dell quickly discontinued this model. Now I find out to replace the mb, if one can even be found, will cost $600 or more. I paid $1500 for my beautiful computer, it was manufacture refurbished. Again the issue is a black screen that flickers for a second and does not boot up at all. I tried to put the recovery disc in and still nothing and then I couldn get the disc out. Ugh!!! So if not the mb then what and how do I fix? I welcome solutions.

    Unfortunately that doesn't give me a solution. I wonder though if the WDF Violation error message I received a day or so prior has anything to do with this? My computer wouldn't shutdown, it just kept in a loop of appearing to shut down. I had to power it off manually. Then when I powered it back on I got a message the system didn't shut down or something like that, can't remember, but it started up and then worked fine. But I believe the WDF Violation may have caused this?
