    You are correct if you install an OS. Then it is done automatically. But in any other case (and here we talk about cloning) it is required. The SSD will work without alignment but it will be slower - some say 3 times slower but I never measured that.

    Most quality cloning software eg Macrium Reflect, Easeus Todo, Acronis Trueimage auto align for SSDs and have done so for quite a few years.
