Can someone point me in the direction of the 'real' upgrade benefits

Keeping this part for reference for security information. I incorrectly misread Mystere's post. I got it backwards. I still can't believe I still get things backwards to this day. My apologize to Mystere's.

Perhaps you should re-read. I said no such thing.

IMO, the only reason to 'upgrade' to W10 is that MS will force you to do it, and it might not be free if you wait too long. The company will discontinue 'so-called' support of previous operating systems, and various bugs and attacks on W7 and W8.1 will bring you to your knees.

Has anyone mentioned hardware compatibility of new PCs, and lack of drivers for old OS's?
So the benefit of Win 10 is to run modern hardware, with the drawback of Win 10's vulnerabilities.

(That said, mine's been stable on a 6 year old and a brand new laptop...)

Here is what an actual business software vendor has to say.

"CerTek can assist you, but the is not a free service since it is not a requirement for Artisan nor are there any Artisan specific advantages"

That is not a reason to upgrade an existing system that is perfectly working.

Never said it was... more the general case of why move on to a new OS. Including 'upgrading' when you buy a new PC.. i.e. what OS would you want on it and why.

But you can extend that to Win 10 only compatible progs and peripheral hardware ... which will come eventually.

I'm curious as to why so much emphasis is given to the "why" with so little discussion on the "why not"? Windows 10, at least for me and the systems I've rolled out in my company, has been every bit as stable as Windows 7, and as responsive or more than any previous version of Windows. Hardware support is excellent for all our printers, accessories, and corporate software.

That's good to hear, and I feel a little better. I saw numerous predictions of doom when the W10 so-called upgrade first appeared, and bit the bullet of upgrading to W10 on one computer. The experience destroyed my wife's computer which I had to replace with an Asus W8.1 that is supposedly W10 upgrade capable. My current computer is a W10, but my experience is with W7, which I liked. So I have configured it to look and act as much like a W7 as I can. I have always disliked the W8.1, but I can't really say why, other than it requires an old guy like me to do some things differently (I'm 75 years old). I was worrying that MS would set a cut off date for their free W10 offer within a year and then leave me with a nonfunctional computer with whatever they issue in a future version update, e.g., something like the Vista root canal that they foisted on us a few years ago.
