After a few days of use (tried earlier previews, but it has moved on since then) I am liking it now, seems a lot more response than 8.1 on my machine, stability and speed wise

the only issue I seem to have is Cortana, it randomly stops working, clicking on it does nothing so have to kill it in taskmanager and then its fine

other little issues I think are me just not fully understanding things yet

    plenty more to explore

So a couple questions from those who are happy with it (without me having to check a bunch of threads)

Is the theme with the spread out caption buttons (basically just the underscore/box/X shapes that I saw in the final betas) the one being used by default? Are there other visual styles that look like Windows 8.1, and can UXTheme be altered to allow third party themes yet?

I take it that Control Panel has already disappeared?

    Thanks,
    :)

the spread out buttons are still at the top

theme wise to me its nothing like 8, its similar in style with the apps, but operates totally different, more like 7 with apps

control panel is mostly still there, some things take you to the modern version in settings, anything specific you want me to check?

Oh no worries, but thank you. So basically the Control Panel conversion is slowly on going. I just checked out DeviantArt, and there appear to be some XP looking styles, and even a Vista lookalike VS for Windows 10 RTM. My only concern is will these themes be quickly broken every single time a major Windows 10 update is downloaded.

Not sure whats going to happen to 3rd party things if CP does eventually go away

most things seem to be still in CP that I have seen, it's a bit like how win 8 worked, duplicated items in Settings and CP

eg for default apps they want you to use the new settings app, but CP still has all this in it and defaults can be set from there

My thoughts on Windows 10? Now that I've used it.

I hate it, I'm sorry but after using XP and Windows 7,,,,,,,I'm beating my brains out on this machine. I'm sorry I'm late to this forum and this question but I just got ask recently. I spend more time trying to figure out how to use something or fix something and fix something and fix something than I do actually using the computer. I GoogleGoogleGoogleGooooglgle, Goggle Gaggle, cry cause I cant get any information on the internet anymore. My XP had 512 MB ram, I could have 20 windows open and be running Media Player with no problem. Windows 7, only 10 windows open and HANG (L.A.freeway on a Sunday cause everybody's trying to get to work by Monday). Windows 10, not much better. Regedit seems useless. I can still get on the Web with my XP and I find more help and info for XP than I did when Microsoft was still supporting it. Windows 10 sound system SUCKS and the internet is full of people that agree. I had a feeling that something wasn't right even before I got W/10, when I was seeing all over the Web 1000s of ways to hack W/10. Comforting, Huh. But we have no choice, even if you don't ever want to upgrade, Microsoft will force your computer to be nothing more than a covered wagon with a flat tire (yeah I know). And the robot at Microsoft support, ("does not compute Will Robinson"). W/10 no DVD player (sniff sniff). 'Movies and TV', useless. Hippy Dippy 'Groove Music', can't even catch up with the 60s. AAAAAHHHHH

I know it's not your central point but VLC can play DVDs even in Windows 10.

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month so I can benefit from Excel's filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial pages are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

    - And note that you can also search TenForums threads [rather than just searching tutorials] in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
[This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Initially, I was a diehard Windows 7 user that wholly refused to install Windows 10 despite the free upgrade offers, persuasive reports, and positive user reviews. I maintained that blindly stubborn mentality to the bitter end. It actually wasn't until I was forced to purchase an entirely new system that I even laid eyes on the Windows 10 desktop - solely because the system came pre-installed with Windows 10.

Even with fate pushing me into it, I was already in the process of downloading and burning a Windows 7 DVD, fully intent on formatting and reinstalling. To my absolute disbelief, in the time span of a few days, not long after the purchase, I decided to postpone the format/reinstall and explore the Windows 10 environment for a bit longer.

This may seem like a reasonable reaction or normal behavior to some, but with a strongly biased perspective, pessimistic outlook, and being a natural skeptic, to still sway my unrelentingly stubborn mind and convince me to continue using it ... was incredible to me, to say the least.

Now, after several years, I'm as diehard for Windows 10 as I was for Windows 7 back then. I still shake my head, confused at things like the 'Settings' console of Windows 10 being an apparent replacement for the Control Panel, yet both still exist, some 'Settings' options link directly to the Control Panel, and some actions can only be accomplished using the Control Panel.

Nevertheless, I must reiterate ... I'm as set in my ways with Windows 10 as I was with Windows 7. Windows Ten 4 Lyfe, Foooo! Get 10 or die tryin!

7 is the best version ever released and the usage stat's state that fact
8 barely ever broke 15% and most of them will upgrade no matter what Microsoft serves in 10,
7'ers :/ no telling way to early to say for sure but myself No way

My copy of 8... is burned toast no matter what 10 is like :)
Whether I use 10 allot or as often as 8 which it's not even installed anymore time will tell

    Hi,
    Necro time capsule time lol
Well on the one machine that I don't have win-7 installed z490 build I use linux mint cinn 20.2 way more than win-10

All other builds x99/ x299/ acer q9550 system I still use win-7 primarily the world has not ended lol but do have win-10 21h1 installed just don't use it beside some periodic benchmarking and updating when new builds release since it makes no difference one build is just like another might as well install the newest it's just going to collect dust in a drawer anyway.

Win-11 if ms doesn't relax some of the obnoxious security requirements doubt I'll bother.
I'm sure sooner or later someone will make a win-11 desktop theme with rounded corners/... for win-10 so it will be close enough lol
