Not if winrar ,winzip or 7zip takes over iso handling.
That is not how you MOUNT an ISO file...
That is how you EXTRACT an ISO file..

    Wording is everything..

To get back to Windows default association with ISO image. This will allow you to Mount either "Double Click" as mentioned above by KYHI or right click->Mount. Open File Explorer, you'll see the ISO is mounted to a virtual CD.

    1. Right click on the ISO File 1
    2. Select Windows Explorer ie. 2
    3. check mark on 3
    4. OK on 4.

    Win 10 .WIM ISO copy-.jpg

This also will remove any association with WinRaR, 7-zip, Ultra ISO etc...

To Extract from ISO file, right click on it then select either WinRaR or 7-Zip or WinZip->Extract Files, select the destination where you want to extract it to. For example: to a USB stick so you can boot it from.

Yeah, I will have to try that, just don't want to remove my other options on my file menu. Would rather ADD that option then remove WinRAR options. But yes I will play with that method too. :)

Open winrar/click Options/click settings/uncheck association with ISO. see screenshot

May I ask; after downloading the ISO .WIM from TechBench I right clicked on the file and selected burn after checking verify .

Is my disc OK to install and repair?? Without getting into mounting??

    TY

Yep, as long as, by "repair", you simpy mean doing an in-place upgrade.

By repair I mean using the latest and all DISM commands to fix corrupted files that SFC and DISM health cannot fix.

With .ESD it cannot find the source but with .WIM the source can be located.

Right. As mentioned earlier, I didn't have much luck for some unknown reason using the .WIM DVD as the specified source for DISM. I had better luck mounting the .iso file and specifying that drive as the source.

Obviously, YMMV. Give it a try and see if it works OK for you.

P.S. [2 hours later] - That failure of a Tech Bench burned DVD for DISM was on my wife's laptop. I just now gave it a try on my own laptop (per "System specs") and it worked fine as /source:wim for /RestoreHealth in DISM - no need in that case for me to mount the .iso file.

    Hi,

Yes but in that case you have to mount the iso file first then adjust the path parameters for the DISM command so it points to the virtual drive letter %\sources dir.

    Cheers,

I got it now Topgun, I made a change in WinRAR, now the file menu shows a choice I didn't have before. It now shows the choice of choosing "Open With" which gives me 3 choices, without making anyone of them a default. That's what I was hoping for actually. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions too!! :)

I have my image mounted, but I still can't figure out a DISM commandline that works to restore the health of my install. I didn't not use the Media Creation tool. Rather, I downloaded the .iso directly from MS.
