Win 10 and small capacity SSDs- Need help maximizing capabilities

    Greetings everyone.

I needed a super cheap laptop for college and got a Black Friday Dell Inspiron 14 3000 series with W10 Home for a whopping $149. Have 2 WD pocket drives with 1TB each, I figured the 32G SSD would work just fine and all storage can be done with my externals or even a USB flash drive.

I know I'm not the only one working with small storage on the C drive, what can be done to optimize and maximize the capabilities of this little laptop to browse the web, write college papers and run iTunes?

--When I first purchased it, I was able to use both USB drives. Today my one Western Digital shows up as a CD drive? Any ideas how to remedy?

--I have searched the Tutorials and read that a beta version of 10 allowed users to save apps to D: or E: Drives. This would really really help me out if this could be done today! My "Save Apps" is still grayed out.

--32G is very small. I cant even download the 5G Win 10 Update! I have stripped all but 3 apps off this laptop and with Win 10 taking about 16G of storage, there simply isn't enough room. Help!

    Thanks

first THING on that Dell Laptop > go into control Panel > recovery > create a recovery drive...

This will copy the factory recovery image to a recovery USB...

DELL usually will write the recovery image twice in the recovery partition, thus the recovery partition is twice the size needed..
    Thus robbing freespace from C:\

I would like to see a pic of the contains in the SOURCES folder on the recovery usb before we process..
As there are two files I would like to read first..

we will proceed by booting from that recovery usb and resetting the laptop and partitions..

Headed to get a USB Drive now!

I tried pulling the Win 10 update and I was able to get the 5G update to download to the external hard drive. Its 5G so that process is slow!
