Laptops are horrible to use.

I really hate those scratchpad things.

I normally "push" stuff to my laptop from my desktop (over the network) rather than try to "pull" stuff from the desktop using the laptop.

HG, Now I think you are exaggerating. It only seemed awkward because you had not used it for a while. Same thing happened the other day to me when I fired up my Nexus 7 that I had not used all summer (because I left it in FL). I was really discombobulated.

Laptops are horrible to use

Use a mouse. Then it is no different to a desktop.

Agree about the pads, but it was with a USB mouse though. What's really clumsy about them is the limited keyboard with some keyboard combos. How does one do Alt/F4 on one? > Alt/Shift/F4.

OK, awkward is not the correct word. 7 is backward to me now. It's desktop oriented, not Start Screen oriented which is my new norm. Desktop in 8.1 is a portal only to run desktop apps. It is simply a screen to me now. It is no longer my Start, nor finish for that matter.

When finished with a desktop app > Alt/F4 > Then hold WinKey > Strike period key > Strike down arrow > Release WinKey > Bye-bye > Auto back to Start Screen.

Why didn't you get a hard drive with more than 5400 to begin with? I thought laptops were suppose to make it easier to change hardware, another words consumer friendly. Desktops except all-ones are more consumer friendly.

5400 RPM drives are often the default drive shipped with laptops. They draw less power and run cooler than 7200 RPM drives, and advantage in a laptop. The downside is the lower performance. If you buy a gaming laptop or desktop replacement, it may have a 7200 RPM drive, or maybe even an SSD. SSD's offer the best of both. They run faster cooler and draw less power than a spinner. Not everybody thinks to look for an option to have a 7200 RPM drive. It may not be a selectable option on some laptops.

I haven't seen too many laptops that are user friendly as far as upgrades go. RAM, hard drive, and maybe the WIFI card are about all you can change. And a lot of laptops don't have easy access panels to get at those components.

Because a) there were no options and b) it does not matter. All my PCs run on SSDs, so I had to change it anyhow.

No, not at all. When I know I'm finished with the desktop and going over to Modern for awhile I close it out. By participating in CEIP it's my little way of voting for Modern and no desktop.

One can even perform it with open apps on it. I usually use Modern IE, but for this special occasion I used desktop IE.
