    Black desktop Icons

Been fighting this problem for a while now and tried everything I could find. Today I came here and found a file to restore the shortcut icon arrow and now all is fine, so far.
My question is who at MS thought that a shortcut arrow was a good idea? Also, has anybody tried to make a transparent shortcut arrow icon and if so does it work?

That feature has been in Windows for a long time, as I recall more than 20 years, and the person that came up with the idea is probably long gone. It is a valuable feature on the desktop to distinguish between the actual .exe/executable file and the shortcut that points to it, prevents inadvertently deleting the .exe file of a program which will kill the use of it.
