    Windows 10 hang

I am running Windows 10 Home Edidtion. When attempting to use my HP machine (HP Envy 810 qe Desktop with 4 core Intel i-7, 32 GB of memory) for the first time this morning, it appeared to be in sleep mode. I tapped on a few keys and got a blue screen with a message (which I think) said "Setting up Apps, Please wait" then a second blue screen appeared with a message "It's taking a bit longer than usual, but it should be ready soon. Don't turn off your PC".

It has been in this state over 4 hours now. I suspect this is similar to a problem I have seen on a new HP Envy laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro. I have seen an intermittent issue after Windows updates are downloaded and the laptop resets and ultimately a blue screen appears with a message indicating "the update is being configured and not to shut down the machine". One time, I left the laptop in this state for over a day before cycling power on the laptop and the laptop came back up fine with no noticeable problems.

I suspect I am seeing a similar problem here on my Windows 10 machine. I suspect a Windows update was downloaded automatically and the installation was started and then the machine was reset automatically and then went into the state I described in the first paragraph.

Has anybody else seen this and is it safe to power reset my Windows 10 machine? Are there any other suggestions as to what I can do other than resetting power?

As far as I am aware no windows updates have been downloaded
Looks like you have nothing to lose
Power off and then restart and see what comes up.
Before you do that gently tap the power button and see if that wakes it up
Once you have it back up and running
    Run sfc /scannow
notice the space between the c and /
see what it finds it does also repair problems
