Sometimes a hub can act like an antenna while with the number of usb type items there nothing can be ruled out including that PCI 3.0 card.

    Problem solved.

It was the USB3 hub. Haven't had a peep out of it all morning.

As the old saying goes - Buy cheap, buy twice. :)

Must be something about the hub itself from a cheap design! Here I tend to stick with CyberPower and just replaced an older worn 4 port hub now discontinued while still having a pair of those still sealed in the original packaging with a 7 port model 2.0 CPH720P model hub.

I still have to get a 3ft extension for the 4 port 3.0 hub(different brand) I picked up at Amazon lately when finding a few buys on 3.0 flash drives right when 10 was just about to come out being the summer time clearances. So if you are goind to be looking for a better hub you can get a few ideas from those two places. I know Amazon has a site over where you are you can browse while the other links are CyberPower product pages.

At least you found the problem and for once it wasn't anything 10 related!

It was one of these from Ebay. Couldn't find much on Amazon at the time.

Thanks for the help and toDatapod too for the USB suggestion that pointed me in the right direction.

EBay? OUCH! I don't bother with that place any more as well as price shop all over once I have something specific picked out. So far I haven't actually seen much difference when trying things out on a 3.0 flash drive compared to a similar 2.0 version of the same model when booting live as far as how fast things load up. I even plugged the 3.0 drives into the 7 port hub and know you won't be losing out on much! The quality of the hub as well as the usb devices is what counts!

Just wondering if your still having this problem or you found a fix? I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 a few weeks ago. About a week after I upgraded I started to hear a notification sound during startup, which I assumed must be devices connecting/disconnecting.. the sound I hear is mainly the disconnect sound. It seems to stop after all the devices or services have started, but it's very annoying for the first 10-20 minutes. I haven't noticed the sound event happening after my PC has been on for some time, so I think it's confined to the startup sequence. I haven't been able to find anything helpful on the web, and then came across this post. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

No further problems since ditching the cheap USB hub. Hope you find the answer.

    Hi there.
I am having the same problems, itīs driving me mad also. When I have my e-Sata external drive connected I hear the plug and unplug sound and sometimes the drive disapears and I have to turn it of and on to be recognized again. Itīs very anoying, could it be the drive no getting enough power or something, like a defective power cable?

    Cheers
