rundll32.exe detected as virus by Avast

    Hi,

I have a big issue i have all the time a popup coming from Avast saying it has detected a virus in rundll32.exe

It comes when i open explorer or when set volume.

Now the worst is that i cant even setup the playback devices for my Audio, when i try to go to sound setting it just block it

I just installed this windows preview yesterday on brand new crucial SSD, all the updates are done (build 9860). And I haven't installed yet any other application then Firefox.

I didn't have any such virus alert on Windows 8.1 with same Avast antivirus, how installing Windows preview gave me a such virus ? or is it just false positive ? if yes how to be sure and how to prevent it to block it ?

    Thanks for your help

    Here are screenshots :

Thanks for the reply, but for me Avast is working perfectly and I saw some other people in Anti virus section for whom it is working. Maybe it was not working on older builds.

So according to you if it is detecting a virus (not sure if there is a virus) it means it is not working ?

This happens every time beta testing OS's comes around... people insist on trying to run their antivirus software.

The problem is that antivirus software, by its nature, has to be very tightly integrated into the OS, and it's very sensitive to any change in the OS structure. So unless the version has been updated to run specifically on the build of the OS you're using, you run the risk of it not working, working sporadically, or worse.. corrupting data.

The same is true of other classes of system apps like firewalls, defraggers, Filesystem utilities, and a bunch of other stuff... it's all very much use at your own risk... but understand that these classes of applications are at a very high risk.

Avast don't work with Win 10. Uninstall it and use Windows Defender instead. Hopefully your audio will get sorted out as well. Using 3rd party AVs with win 10 seems to create permanent damage to the system. Some people who used AVG can't get any anti-virus to work after upgrading to 9860. Even Windows Defender was broken and unusable. Only clean install will fix everything. I am an Avast fan too. Tried it with Win 10 but failed. Anyway, just last week I abandoned Avast and installed AVG on all my machines after learning about "avast spying" issue.

Thanks to both of you for your help and detailed info. I tried to uninstall the Avast and it happened what i was fearing the windows defender was no more activating, tried even registry hacks but then the virus definition was not updating

So End up refreshing the windows and all is working fine now :) will stay away from 3rd party anti viruses for now.

Audio issue is solved too because i think Avast had corrupted a system file.

One issue though since refreshing i have no more boot menu to choose between windows 8.1 and TP, both OS are on different HDD (wind 10 on SSD and Wind 8.1 on stock HDD) Maybe I should make a new topic ?

Dual booting with Win 10 is quite messy right now as Win 10 keeps getting updated and breaks the boot menu all the time. It is easily fixable with EasyBCD but you have to expect that you will have to do it again each time there's a Win 10 update.

See this video. But download EasyBCD from somewhere else if you are not familiar with Softpedia. Softpedia always bundles crapwares with their downloads..
