Windows 10 start button doesn't work

I upgraded recently from w8.1 to w10 using free UG offered by MS. It has been working well until about a week ago, when suddenly one evening (it worked well throughout the day) when I clicked on the start button the tiles did not show up. I have done sfc scan and DIMS/restore health many times; all of them show there are no system integrity issues. I am able to work on my files by going through file explorer. Right click on start button works, but left click doesn't. About two days ago, I got a notification windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n142txeyewy!microsoft.windows.in. I searched all over for a solution to this problem...and finally in one of the threads in this site I found the following solution provided by USgroupie in August 2015 (13th Aug) to enter the following command in Powershell - Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} - I entered this and the system ran the whole process and did come up with a number of red-notifications saying it could not register a number of Apps...However, the beauty is that after I upgraded to w10, I have not installed any apps except ofcourse the office 2010, adobe reader and such. In fact I have never used the app store...I have an MS account but I use only a local account...After I did the above powershell command, now the notification center too is not opening (it was opening and showing me the notifications before I did that...that's how I came to know of the immersive control panel error)...I AM NOT A TECHNICAL PERSON..Can someone help me...

    Hi

Windows 10 has start menu crashing issues which MS itself acknowledged. The cumulative update released on September 30 is said to be including a fix for this. Have tried updating Windows ?.

Hi, given that you appear to be facing an increasing number of issues e.g. " now the notification center too is not opening"... you might be best to do the following, although it may be overkill.

It's also perhaps better than trying to diagnose the situation and suggest various fixes, and thus time limited.

    1. Run chkdsk C: /F from an admin (elevated) command prompt.
This will check your disk and hopefully correct any errors in the disk file structure, just to be on the safe side.

    2. Do an in-place repair install of Win 10 (you will need e.g. a Win 10 disk- (freely downloadable iso which you can burn, and also potentially useful if your PC doesn't boot one day). (Probably easier than dealing with a bootable USB drive)

This will leave all installed programs in place, but Windows updates to date will follow.

(Note: you may like to consider a start menu replacement program...the Win 10 start menu is rather limited, as well as being somewhat fragile, and currently still only allows up to 512 shortcuts.)
