how to fix file system error (-2147219196)

This error and Chrome browser "hiding itself upon opening" started soon after I installed 32 bit JAVA in order to make Open Office Grammar Checker extension function.

I tried the easy fix methods where you simply click enable or disable some easy to access setting... no joy.

I tried the cmd suggestions and scannow finding no problems.

    What to do?

    Hi 10fuesed

In reading posting seems there are two errors, a file system error and Chrome opening minimized.

For the file system error I would run chkdsk. Before I did this I would ensure I had a complete data backup.

To check for errors open file manager, right click c:, properties, tools, check.

For Chrome you want to ensure your shortcut (even if it is on Task bar) has Run set to Normal Window. If icon Chrome on Task Bar, right click icon, then right click Google Chrome in jump list, then properties. Check run box.

Another possible fix is to reset Chrome or uninstall, restart and re-install.

I recommend using a tool like Macrium Reflect to take images of your system. Then when trouble strikes you can restore.

run chkdsk from the command prompt?

    I did, no errors found.

"To check for errors open file manager, right click c:, properties, tools, check."

I do not know how to do this......well I figured it out (shows as file explorer on my device), no errors found and it was fast.

So when do you get file error?

    When you start Chrome?

Did you explore how Chrome is set to open?

I uninstalled java and restarted, I think it did it anyhow as checking c drive there are still several java folders and files present.

That fixed Chrome but not the file system error.

It did indeed kill Open Office Grammar extension stating it needs a Java Runtime blah blah blah thing.

I get the error when clicking to open an image which it will not do without right clicking and opening via Paint.

When right clicking, telling it to open the image in the native photoviewer instead of paint, also renders the toast windon file error message.

any ideas on how to cure the file system error and restore the left click opening of images via the native photo viewer?

Paint isn't my preferred method to view images for many reasons.

When I choose default apps, then photos, it only gives an indication that some toast window popped up then disappers.

The first time I tried it, it opened a blank window presumably to the Microsoft Store.

The tutorial did that? If Photo Viewer is not listed in the popup window for defaults, go to "look for other apps" and choose it there. I'm not clear what you are doing or seeing.
