By and large, this is an enthusiasts' forum, and as enthusiasts, the collecting habit is well developed. As stated above, rarely is anything thrown away, even if totally obsolete.

I have 2 laptops that work, 4 that don't at the moment, a couple of towers that work, and a couple that don't at the moment, and a box or five of motherboards, drives, memory, expansion cards, 3 or four keyboards, numerous mice, and about half a dozen monitors. I have disposed of all my CRT monitors - probably a mistake that I'll regret.

I have a TRS 80 color computer, and Apricot ACT PC, and a Amiga Commodore A1200, all of which were working the last time I looked at them. (Which was a long time ago...)

My wife had an Android Tablet for Christmas - she looks at it about once a month to ask me where the facebook has gone. Sigh.
I would consider an Overclocking site or a PC building and hardware site as an enthusiast's forum , to me this is just a Windows help forum just like the Windows 7 and 8 forums that most average computer users go to find help with issues.

Oh my! I have more computers than I ever even look at going back to the 1980(s).

1985 (I believe) Compaq Portable (the first) running DOS (before Windows was even available)
2000 (something) Gateway Desktop running Windows XP (which I have not turned on for a year)
2000 (something) Gateway Laptop running Windows Vista (which I keep for genealogy info it contains)
2000 (something) Acer Aspire 5538 Laptop upgraded from W7 to W10 (which I use mostly)
2015 Dell SPS 13 Laptop running W10 which I rarely use only to keep updated

And on order a new Microsoft Surface Book which should arrive around 10/26

Why so many you ask? Have no clue .. packrat maybe?

In 1978 or 79 I started out with a TRS-80 Model 1 with the cassette recorder. I was in 6th or 7th grade. Was able to scrape up enough money for the upgrade to Level 2 Basic and 16K of memory, but couldn't afford the expansion interface and disk drive.

Fourteen Notebooks running Linux Mint 13, Linux Mint 17.2, MacBook Pro OS X, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Also have two old laptops, one MS-DOS 5 with Windows 3.1 and one with Windows 98. Plus wife's Windows 10 Notebook. Five Desktops 3 with Windows 10, 1 with Windows 7 and one with Linux Mint 17.2. All the machines are in usable condition.

Excluding a Win7 and Win10 Customs I built and 3 Notebooks I bought, I have obtained the rest of the Notebooks as rescues, something wrong the clients gave up on and replaced and I was able to rehabilitate them, most with new HDDs but a nice one had a broken screen. I prefer doing that whenever possible but last resort is to the recycle center. In my area it's rather difficult to sell older products, most people want the latest and greatest. I have rehabbed and given away several Desktops over the years to folks with a real need and one church, easier and cheaper to rehab Desktops and most times it's just my time and parts I've salvaged from other machines.

I started out with Commodores, both a 20 then later a 64. Would have been in the 1980's as well. Both with cassette tapes for storage. Wow! Computers have come a LONG way.

Our household has 3 laptops, 1 tablet, and 2 desktops. There are 2 mothballed laptops, 2 desktops, some monitors, and some printers in the basement that I need to "let go" of and dispose of properly.

P.S. I'm forgetting my Sinclair ZX-81 which I purchased in 1982 - it also used cassette tapes as the storage medium. They can pry that and my deer rifle from my cold dead fingers some day.
