Yep and thats my point, Windows 10 already has some "Out of the box" features that are appealing, I do not think your wrong about 8 and 8.1 being a better OS than 7 but the UI is the problem. MS wanted a good User experience but I along with many many others did not like the start tile UI experience for a PC. In fact when its tablets I like the apple OS except I'm forced to Jailbreak it so I can tweak. One thing that these OS's can't be is all things to all people unless they are very customizable.
I Think its important that some of us here admit we hated 8 but we are liking 10, the 8 crowd should like it but with the marketing problems MS has had with 8 if you can win over the 7 and XP ( many XP users still ) then you have a Hit
Very good point, I think 10 is going to be good in winning over hold outsI Think its important that some of us here admit we hated 8 but we are liking 10, the 8 crowd should like it but with the marketing problems MS has had with 8 if you can win over the 7 and XP ( many XP users still ) then you have a Hit
Yes. Like a Start Menu. Yet it isn't anything close to the 7 Start Menu other than two columns. I guess it doesn't matter just as long as it's a Start Menu.
Sounds like a contradiction of terms. You OPed explaining that you hated it. So now you hated on a PC, but in your next sentence you don't use it on a tablet either.I do not think your wrong about 8 and 8.1 being a better OS than 7 but the UI is the problem. MS wanted a good User experience but I along with many many others did not like the start tile UI experience for a PC.
But yet you go to extremes to tweak iPads???In fact when its tablets I like the apple OS except I'm forced to Jailbreak it so I can tweak.
I've been saying all along since the rumors of 10 that it will be the most customizable OS to date and it looks as though it is.One thing that these OS's can't be is all things to all people unless they are veryq seetomizable.
Admittedly 8.x is not the seller 7 was, but as I pointed out it's not the biggest loser if 33% of members claim that it's the best. That's really only 23% difference to the 55% say about 7. It's not like MS lost there arse on 8.x. No, they still made and are making a profit from it. Their stock continues to do well a also. It is also not only the "consumption" OS that people make it out to be. It's very much a "production" OS, if not more so than 7 is.I Think its important that some of us here admit we hated 8 but we are liking 10, the 8 crowd should like it but with the marketing problems MS has had with 8 if you can win over the 7 and XP ( many XP users still ) then you have a Hit
Hi
I like it because it makes me feel like I'm using Windows 7 again!
I really wished a year ago when I bought my new computer that I had Windows 7 installed on it.
And now it feels like I have.
Mike
I've been using it for a week now without looking back. I like the desktop Start Menu with which MS raised a billion customers, snappier performance, improved Explorer functions, and better graphics rendering.
I don't care for the tablet apps in Start Menu, flat ugly GUI, and lack of gadgets - remedied by 8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 8 / 8.1

When 10 is eventually released I hope it is going to give a good impression to the most people
In it's current form I would not pick it over Win 8.1, I find 8.1 much easier to navigate and find things, 10 so far just seems like a awkward mess (I use the start screen instead of menu)
I just hope MS give people the option to use it how they want, working similar to the 8 series or like 7 and not just restrict operation based upon the type of machine you have (touch or mouse/keyboard)
Hi there
I just have 2 problems with it - otherwise it's certainly the most stable OS I've had that is probably not even "Alpha" software and some way off being an RC (Release Candidate).
1) Can't increase Text size on the start menu -- OK on a bog standard laptop with 768 X 1366 resolution - but hideous on say a Surface Pro 3 with a really great 4K resolution - or even on decent large monitors.
2) (BIG ONE) Cannot connect W7 computers shared HDD's TO W10 unless I address the W10 computer by its IP address - not a great solution if using DHCP. Connections FROM W10 TO W7 are fine though !!!!.
W8.1 computers can connect BOTH ways so no problem. Linux servers using SMB (samba) also need \\ipaddress rather than the host name \\w10computer. W10 connects TO Linux servers without problem so it's all on the INCOMING side.
No probs with Office / photoshop .
If I run a Music server ON W10 then I run into the connection problem again - the CLIENTS on W7 / android can't access it unless the IP address is given -- hideous get around.
Some NAS stuff does work but you are accessing a NAS which is NOT a W10 system !!!.
I'm happy to run this as a VM - but until Network is fixed I won't be running as a HOST on a REAL machine yet.
Cheers

I like 10 a lot.
I do work for small businesses and had to work hard to keep 8 hidden, non-obtrusive, masked, etc. I would not hesitate to put 10 to work.
This is serious stuff for microsoft. they cannot stop the cannibalization of PC's in general, but/and Windows 8 was a monster mistake at precisely the worst time in history, killing the waning enthusiasm of the OEM's they long were in conspiracy with, causing horrendous inventory problems etc while samsung continues to roll out excellent multitasking 'droids that can take away most functions of PC's. [I cite samsung because they are not conflicted like google and apple are. samsung supports freedom of choice: removable batteries, removable expansive storage, they more/less support hacking, personal privacy, etc] in the latest market share numbers, windows 8/8.1 actually shrank. there are 3x as many windows xp licenses alive/active vs. 8. HP is spinning off their PC business because they had no choice: no buyers. nobody wants the falling knife. If MS is listening: the best thing MS can possibly do is hurry 10 out the door [debugged, of course] and do FREE UPGRADES to anyone that wants it, from anything they have: XP, Vista, 7, 8.
speaking of vista, 8 out-uglied vista, by the numbers. The worst rollout in history.
But personally, I did not hate 8. Fast, efficient, and not that hard to fix really.
I was shocked by 8 when I saw and played with it. It was not Business friendly at all, MS biggest user group is businesses
10 so far is a step in the right direction, I think geeks like us forget that people judge an OS by its cover ( Book by its cover) and if it looks hard to use then its conceived as such. I honestly found win 8 a PITA to use unless I put ADD ONs on it
