Steve, I'm the OP and this wasn't exactly solved; the computer, which was an HP Laptop just up and died; thus, the thread was marked solved.
Since yours seems to be a desktop and since this thread is old news, if it were me, I'd start a new thread. I think if you do, you'll be more likely to get help for your problem.
If you've read the whole thread, you'll have seen that even HP got involved, but couldn't solve the problem for me. My problem may have been that the video part of my motherboard (onboard video) may have been going south because that's what finally killed it. That's not to say yours won't be solved, since our systems are so distant from each other.
Then again, this brings up the thought that something similar may be happening with your system.
Best advice I can give at the moment is to start a new thread where you'll likely get more help than here in this one.
