thanks again. I will look at mcrium in the future, but still hoping to figure why this happened and get my acronis images to restore. It happened out of the blue.

First time this happened I waited around 10 minutes. Windows 10 had been installed since release so this was out of nowhere. Just after a normal reboot. Then I got into trying to reset/restore, etc....
Last night after a restore with acronis i let it be until this morning so that was around 5 or 6 hours. Now I just did reset and it has been around 15 or 20 minutes.
tried a clean install. got into windows. It activated. Then it started downloading updates. I did not install any dell drivers yet so I figured I would just let it continue and would do drivers after. Then when installed, got a blue screw and some power state failure error and then boot and now the spinning dots again!
Go ahead and post this in the BSOD thread, perhaps @axe0, @essenbe or @Boozad can help. First follow the instructions before posting. It might be a hardware problem, that's not my world, but I'm very sure one of those 3 will be glad to help.
thanks. I think I will try a clean install first but pull the network cable so updates do not go automatically. Then manually install the dell drivers, then run update. I do not have the exact error code so cannot post that yet.
Still not sure why this happens. I have dell pro support and they believe it is not hardware since the hardware passed the diagnostics.
Ok Mike. One more thing then, to keep Windows Update from downloading and installing drivers in the future, here is a copy & paste from another thread I'm on:
haven't had one single driver update since I upgraded to and then clean installed Win10.
I did both without an internet connection, installed my video driver that I downloaded from AMD beforehand(so I could see my desktop properly for the rest ahead), then I went strait to Control Pane >> All Control Panel Items>>System>>System Properties>>Hardware tab>>Device Installation Settings and then chose No, let me choose what to do>>Never install driver software from Windows Update
out of curiosity, I just tried restoring an acronis image of just the OS partition to the drive that I did a clean install on. Same thing is happening with the spinning dots. I assume the boot information is on the os partion?
thanks
So if I kept the UEFI partition from the clean install and just imaged the os, should I have gotten different results?
