    Good point.
    I haven't seen this request.
If a person is using Windows Defender in Win 10, won't they get at least one Windows Update per day for a new definitions update ?
I'm using Panda at the moment, and I'm using Win 10 as a VM in Win 7 so I let the Host Win 7 control sleep and hibernate (for the PC).

Hopefully it works, let us know as it may help others with this request.
    :)
Of course! XD By the way, I've noticed that "turn off display" works erratically as well: if I set "turn off display" under 5 mins, then it works then at 5 mins all my displays are back on for no reason. If I set the timer by default (10 mins) then it work and they stay off, but sleep fails... I always set the HDD to turn off before sleep by the way. We have different graphic cards, and the driver I got is flawed.

So now, I've set "turn off display" at off, then sleep at 5 mins. In my BIOS, I set "S3 only". And so far so good. As for the override then time will tell if it works or not. Fingers crossed. But the question to be asked now is: why me and linw, but not the others?

Edit: I don't care if Maintenance fails for now! lol

Windows Defender doesn't update every day. Just when needed. But this preview edition will no doubt get frequent irregular updates. Time will tell on that, though.

My win 10 is an over 8.1 upgrade so may be a different setup to a VM regarding sleep.

    Continue the learning curve!!

From an elevated command prompt try this command to override the request:
    POWERCFG -REQUESTSOVERRIDE SERVICE svchost.exe EXECUTION

I don't have this request so I can't test if it works...
Nice thing is that the new Command Prompt windows will now COPY AND PASTE! Just copy this string and Ctrl-V into the box.

The usual hangup with Homegroup showed its ugly head until I finally got the computers in the Homegroup network all synced up. So far, it has been the only issue I have had with sleep.

BTW, all of a sudden all the screenshots and stuff on the posts turned into links this morning. Anyone else notice this? Did I change a setting somewhere accidentally?

I killed Windows Media Player Network sharing services and I don't have any trouble (for now)

@John. No problems with screenshots using Chrome.

So, after the updates, you don't have any requests registered? If not, here we go again, wondering why some setups get affected and not others.

Is your installation a VM, clean install or 8.1 update?

By the way guys, if I were to stop using Windows defender as an antivirus, which one should I take? Not invasive and good... and free! I strongly believe this is the root cause of svchost issue. That could explain why those who don't use Defender don't have the issue... (maybe).

I don't think it is a Defender issue. It is an update issue. Any update will trigger this.

The real issue, I believe, is that there is no effective mechanism to cancel the request after it has done its job.

I also had an appropriate srvvnet request this morning but it disappeared after a while. The svchost (wuauserv) one just outstays its welcome and it needs a restart to clear it.

This is what's happening on my machine, anyway.
