"The program don't support the project"

I've seen a similar message on my terst PC, after I upgraded it to Win109. It is the Gigabyt overclocking utility causing the message and the software has not been upgraded (and will not be upgraded) to work in Win10. The software works just fine, but the error message pops up every time I power cycle or reboot the PC. The grammar in these things is frequently incorrect, which may lead us to suspect virus or malware activity...

So nothing appears to be amiss there.

Following that I did a complete computer scan with AVG 2015 which found no threats.

Finally I ran Malwarebytes, which reported three PUPs in Registry Keys:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\TWEAKBIT\ATPopups
HKLM\SOFTWARE\TWEAKBIT\ATUpdaters
HKLM\SOFTWARE\TWEAKBIT\GoogleAnalyticsPackage

It successfully quarantined those.

Tweakbit was a program I installed to try and find a driver for my ATI Radeon X1600 card because, during the installation of Windows 10, Windows replaced this with MS’s own Basic Display Adapter. However, as it was unable to find a driver, I uninstalled Tweakbit, but it had obviously left some traces in the Registry as program uninstallations often do. I managed to fix the graphics driver problem by installing the Vista driver which I had on a CD which came with the laptop when I originally bought it. Much to my surprise it works in Windows 10!

The Startup tab in Task Manager lists the following:

Apple Push
AVG User Interface
CIR Application for Disti (the publisher is stated to be MTC, which I think may be short for Mitac, the makers of my laptop)
CLIStart.exe (I think this is something to do with ATI Catalyst Control Center)
Microsoft OneDrive
O&O DiskImage Tray
QuickTime Task
Realtek HD Audio Manager
ROC_roc_ssl_v12.exe (I think this is something to do with AVG)
Synaptics Pointing Device starter
Synaptics TouchPad Enhancements
VProtect Application (I think this is something to do with AVG)

Do any of those look like they might be causing a problem?

“The program don’t support the project” is still appearing on the Desktop each time I start the computer. I am now wondering whether I should perform a clean installation of Windows 10 to see if that will get rid of this annoyance (my present installation was via the “Upgrade this PC now” option). What do you think?

"ROC_roc_ssl_v12.exe" - that might be something to do with AVG, but it looks like an additional Secure Socket Layer. I had to install OpenSSL to run a script that allowed me to downgrade my iPhone 4S from iOS 8.4 to iOS 6.1.3 (Along with a cracked IPSW file).

I just googled it, it is indeed for AVG. I don't see anything in there that is not legit, but sometimes a rootkit will not show up in the Startup.

Thanks for this. Since I disabled CIR App for Disti at Startup fortunately I have not received the message again, but I had not previously heard of adwcleaner so I have made a note of it in case it comes in useful in the future.

Many thanks for this. I apologise for my lack of technical knowledge, but in my case I assume I would not have a Gigabyte overclocking utility? I imagine that would apply to desktop PCs with a discrete graphics card, rather than an onboard laptop card such as I have? Have you been receiving exactly the same message as me? It really is weird wording.

You would never guess that something called "ROC_roc_ssl_v12.exe" had anything to do with AVG, would you? What strange names some computer files have.

Just an update on this.

As suggested by GamerwGlasses I have downloaded and run AdwCleaner. All it found was something called vToolbarUpdater18.8.0 which from AdwCleaner’s logfile appears to belong to AVG. I have therefore decided not to remove this particular file.

I then decided to download Security Task Manager. I re-enabled CIR App for Disti in Task Manager and rebooted. Then I ran Security Task Manager. It gave the CIR App a rating of harmless and didn’t find anything else untoward. I have now disabled CIR again to prevent the message appearing at startup.

I think I have probably gone as far as I can with this. Bearing in mind that the laptop I am using is purely for testing Windows 10 to try and decide whether I want to upgrade any of my other (newer) computers and I am not putting anything of importance on it, I don’t think I need worry too much. Baffled by the strange message perhaps, but not worried.

Yes, not a big thing by any means, but it should work properly. Perhaps you'd like to write AVG and report this.

BTW, I was poking around in WU in my 8.1 yesterday and there was a popup warning that came up saying "Are you want to uninstall this?" Not proper grammar by any means.

If the app in question is a toolbar? Then by all means delete the hell out of it! It does not mater who makes it, also, both Malwarebytes and Eset now consider all toolbars viruses, regardless of maker. If you had run NOD32, it would have been positive on that app. Malwarebytes would have removed it.

Actually it's a toolbar UPDATER which is worse, it will re-install the toolbar if it has been deleted. Actually this explains the original error message, and it was virus related as I suggested. Glad you ID'd the culprit, get rid of it or it will eventually reinstall the toolbar.

I have now used AdwCleaner to remove vToolbarUpdater18.8.0, and have manually removed all instances of cir.exe from the laptop. However, I am seriously considering a clean installation of Windows 10 and to that end have just prepared a DVD using the Media Creation Tool. Over the years I have had Windows XP, Vista, 7, and now 10 on this laptop – to say nothing of various Linux dual boots – and who knows what junk may still be lurking on the hard drive. Perhaps a clean installation will hopefully get rid of any rubbish which may be hanging around.

I have spent several hours today performing a clean installation and am pleased to report that I no longer have "The program don't support the project" message!

The culprit was definitely something to do with CIR. I was having a look through the driver CD I used to install the graphics driver after my original in place upgrade and when I clicked on one of the files in the CIR folder a little box appeared saying "Notify ... The program will not support the project!" Quite why that became altered to "don't support" when it appeared on the desktop at startup, or for that matter what it means anyway, I don't know.

Unfortunately the clean installation would not accept the graphics driver from the driver CD which surprised me because the previous in place installation was perfectly happy to do so. However I eventually managed to obtain a driver from catalog.update.microsoft.com and installed that instead, which has given me the correct 1280 x 800 resolution.

Right, now I need to get round to copying back all my personal files, which I stored on OneDrive prior to doing the fresh installation. And then reinstall various programs such as MS Office, etc. After that I can at last concentrate on getting to know Windows 10. :)
