E:\ The directory name is invalid

I am running Windows 10. I had a USB stick in the computer. After an update-restart, I ejected the USB drive, and now my computer is slow after idling and there was a nagging message that asserts itself. First it was something about what do you want me with removable drive E.

I finally clicked on that message, now i get the message "E:\ the directory name is invalid" Now that pops up before I do any clicking on anything.

I'm not sure if I inadvertantly indexed the E drive, or if its just that the E drive must be there.

It slows my computer anytime it has been idle for 10 minutes or so.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Sorry, I found indexing, E was not checked, but I checked and unchecked it, and that seems to have finally fixed it. I guess trying to figure out what information to give finally led me to find out how to index a file. E is still showing up in the index options, but I have not gotten the nagging messages that have been bothering me for weeks.

    Sorry

I thought my issue was solved, as I didn't get the message again during the whole time I was on, however I just woke my system up and I'm getting that message again with nearly every click.

I found there is a portable E device in devices, so I uninstalled it, but it also keeps coming back when I reboot.

It turns out this was a driver issue. I didn't realize this computer had an SD drive and it was the SD drive driver that was the wrong version. Upon researching this SD drive issue, I accidentally turned up a post on ReadyBoost. I through in an old SD card and turned on ReadyBoost, and improved my boot and program launch speeds by 60%. How had I never heard of this. ReadyBoost has been part of Windows since Vista.

Vickyg: I have the same problem. Can you give me instructions on how to get rid of this annoying message? I used to have Windows Vista and have Windows 10 now. A message kept popping up about a combo socket and I don't know what I clicked but since then I get this dialog box saying Combo socket - G:\ The directory name is invalid. It pops up every 10 seconds! Thank you.

Little late coming into the conversation....but just letting anyone know who's having this problem.

We solve this for customers every day at the minute, 9 times out of 10, just uninstall the drive under device manager, scan for hardware changes to have the drive automatically reinstalled, audio cd's will play again no problem.
