    A DVD? which win version?
The command with (D:) is correct. We don't want to analyse your DVD!
Your Windows to be treated is offline!

    No USB available?

I think, I have to ask a friend tomorrow.

    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=D:\ /offwindir=D:\Windows /offlogfile=D:\sfc.txt

    try without scratchdir

    Dism /image:D:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth

don't forget this when you start a new session

You said there is no boot problem, but you're still executing SFC command offline from recovery environment.

You are wasting OP time, i can see you're not sure what you are doing, why do you want OP to execute Dism command from Recovery Environment?

Freebooter, the original problem description around a boot problem was my 2003 terminology. With 2003, if windows didn't come up it was a boot problem. There was no such thing as WinRE or EFI. The PC boots, WinRE runs and I get a screen that tells me it couldn't repair my computer giving me the option to try again or go into advanced options.

I can get into the Bios and remove secure boot & boot off of a usb. I did that a couple of times and got the same results I got when running from the WinRE environment.

From what I've learned so far, that probably wasn't the brightest move. If SFC or DISM ran from the legacy environment I would have wound up being stuck there. I would have windows back without EFI. One of the advantages of being an antique is that you fought a bunch of opponents that no longer pose a threat. Having fought a rootkit I want to do everything I can possibly do to avoid doing that again.

Do you happen to have a tutorial on DISM?' I think once we get that working we may be there

Pentagon, I am a little concerned that we are trying to run dism while the volume is labeled D. My thought is will dism go through the registry and change C: to D:?

For the last time! (D:) is right. But did you create the Scratchfolder?
    mkdir D:\scratch ?
    X:> dir D:
    ?

... SFC or DISM ran from the legacy environment ...

They never run in legacy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a clear statement that your Tool is corrupt (0x80029C4A)

But you can continue with Freebooter.
    I am out now.

    @Antique lets start over.

Can you boot your computer into Windows 10?

Do you have Windows 10 installation DVD or USB?

Can you provide me Startup repair log file?

    Please post any error messages?
