Moving Documents Folder - After OneDrive

Two issues, I provide the first for context.

The client enabled Onedrive and then in trying to disable may have made things worst. C:\ drive and D:\ drive mess up badly.

I assumed not a big issue, paid for Macrium backing it up both on different schedules to a NAS

For the life of me I can't get the restored C: to boot. It appears to start, the swirling dots start and the it just stops... mid dot. Even tried installing Windows clean, new media, and then restored only the C: partition, no luck.

So clean install Windows again to C:\ from media created two hours before. Success, it boots.

So then I restored data to d:\ drive.

Now when c:\was installed it created a ONEDRIVE directory with quite a pick of structure (libraries and empty subfolders.).

Now I want Windows to point documents, and some other libraries, on D:\. As per Brink's tutorial I disabled OneDrive. (Exited) Following tutorial I right clicked documents library under onedrive, clicked the location tab and proceeded to move follow tutorial. (Navigate to D:, select folder,) answered yes ( also tried no) to question to move files and clicked "Apply"

Immediately get error message titled "The folder can't be moved here." The full error message is "Can't move the folder because there is a folder in the same location that can't be redirected. Access denied"

Tried a blank drive - same message.

On one of the first panels when you go to move a location is reset to default. Click that and it removes OneDrive from the path name so it is just c:\users\client\Documents. Click apply same error message.

So I'm stuck in that I cant restore C:\ and if I use fresh C: I can't move libraries.

I've never had Macrium fail me and tried older backups. So Macrium aside can someone help me redirect the libraries to D:\

Macrium is up to date and Windows was created from fresh media.

    Thank you

    Try this:
navigate to C:\users\<name>\Documents and on the "LOCATION" TAB just replace the Letter from (C:) to (D:) like this: D:\users\<name>\Documents and click "OK".
It keeps the structure of everything. Everything will be moved to (D:) without any error message. That is the "EASY" way and is usually my 2nd step when I set up a new machine.
    My 1st step is this:
Change Storage Save Locations in Windows 10
and if you do the 2nd step like this D:\<name>\Documents everything is OK. And it is very safe!
Repeat that with Pictures and the rest. Leave "Desktop" as it is.

You cannot move a OneDrive folder like Documents to another drive.
You can move the C:\Users\UserName folders to the D: drive, As stated above

But To add to what is being said.
On the D:\Drive, Create a folder call it whatever, Open this folder up and create folders for all of the UserName folders (ie) Downloads, Desktop, Documents etc. Now go back to C:\Users\UserName and Right click each folder choose Properties go tothe Location Tab and click the Move button. Browse it to the same named folder you just created on the D:\ drive. Click OK to overwrite the empty folder.
Now all shortcuts to the library will lead to the D: drive.

    For more clearance:
The OneDrive Folder doesn't have the "LOCATION" TAB. That is a different procedure.
But everything else can be moved by just replacing the Letter (C:)

So you don't have to worry, if your "Windows" crashes. Even an Inplacement is possible without any interference!

    Edit:
Start with the small Folders to get familar with the process like:
    Favorites
    Music
    Pictures

Then check the (D:) Partition to see how it works and looks

On reading closer the path currently is c:\users\client\onedrive\documents.

If I just change c: to d: I still have onedrive in path so that would have to be edited to, I guess??

The goal is to be total separated from onedrive. Would actual be nice if MS would just have a question when you start, "Use onedrive, yes or no or setup later."

    c:\users\client\onedrive\documents.
    No, that doesn't work!
    It should be C:\users\<name>\ Documents.

You have to fix the onedrive first.
What about C:\users\<name>\ pictures ? Try there.

Being determined I couldn't believe Macrium had failed. I remembered this computer was using riad yet the bios was set for achi.

I did another restore to a fresh SSD, set UEFI to Raid and disabled CSM. What do you know it booted and everything was as it was before the clicking on use OneDrive.

How the BIOS / UEFI was changed will be a mystery. The CMOS battery is nine years old. Did it have hiccup?

Thanks for all for responding, That is what makes this forum great, solid answers.

The CMOS battery would not have been the problem. The Bios could have changed from a improper shut down or an Update
    Glad you got it sorted,

We don't suggest using OneDrive, but if you want to move it to another Drive, here are the instructions https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...c-712676b2c4ae

    Thanks Spunk.

Personally I use a NAS but for some of my clients I recommend OneDrive or something similar. I do so as most have no backups and ones I set up with manual backups forget, constantly.

I really like to see it, Onedrive, be less aggressive. A simply question.

I'm going to a client's house on Wednesday and they have his and her computers both signed into the same MS account using the same onedrive. This was set up for them a few months back, not by me.

    Thanks again.
