    Back to W10

A few days ago, my W10 HP PC started behaving like my W11 HP PC, which I ignored. I thought I had some worms or minor malwares. Turned out, I was indeed upgraded to W11 without my intention. I tried to reset back but apparently the 10-day grace period had expired which precluded easy back recovery. So, I clean reinstalled W10 (I did not think it was feasible without external source). Now I am back to W10, albeit, without my old files and apps. I posted this to notify those who tried, and failed, to recover back to W10.

Most use 3rd party backup software. Which, comes in real handy at times like this.

MS upgrades you to Win 11... no problem... just restore from your Win 10 backup.
More or less, 3rd party backup software, makes Windows re-installs, UN-necessary.

If your PC was silently upgraded to W11, it's possible it will be selected again in the future.

Follow this guide to prevent that:

I have two nearly identical HP laptops 12 months apart. Both came with W10. I upgraded the newer device to W11. I can see the difference between the two OS. W10 is clearly the better - simpler, more user friendly and faster. And that's why I was annoyed when the W10 was "silently" upgraded to W11(MS did that?). Because I had no image backup, and the 10-day grace period had expired, I labored to get back to W10 thru clean installation.(I have already forgotten how I did it). Now I make sure a have image backup. in external drive.

How did you prove Windows 10 is faster?

My two PC's, identically set up, side by side and being used identically (same surfing, same wifi, same browswe) demonstrate the difference between the two OS: W10 PC responds faster despite being 12 months older.

Without realizing I was "silently" upgraded to W11, the first thing I noticed was my W10 device was "behaving like W11" ... slower. I thought I had a malware or bad update. That means even without side by side comparison, I have been aware W11 is slower.

It is not funny. I prefer W10 so much, I had to clean install W10 to get back, with a price ... losing old files, apps and setups. I restored the lost files from an old backup of my W11 device. I had to reinstall some apps and setups, tediously.

We constantly suggest that you make an Image File of your computer, once Windows 10 is all updated and your 3rd party apps are installed and save the Image to another drive like a USB HDD. Or at least Copy and Paste your User files to another drive. That way, if your computer automatically upgrades, you get a virus or the SSD/HDD fails, you can Restore your Image in a few minutes instead of hours or days. And never lose you Personal User files.

BTW Windows 10 is supported until October 2025.

For a while, I could not do image backup with Backup and Restore (W7). It stopped working and third-party alternative services were too complicated for me; that's why I had no image backup and that's why I ended up with clean install route. What amazed me was I was able to do that without external source, not even One Drive. It was a sheer stroke of luck. Unfortunately, I have totally forgotten how I managed to do clean installation.
