    Refreshed system and having problems

My old system was having problems: slow and occasional crashes.
I decided to try the refresh. At first everything seemed ok: the system was faster of course there was a minimal of programs operating.
The system began to repeatedly sometimes before Windows could open other times while trying to use EDGE.
I thought it might be my video driver, but I downloaded the NVIDIA panel and uploaded the latest software still no relief.

If I run CHKDSK I see that on stage 3 "Volume Bitmap is incorrect Windows has checked the file and found problems"
Message added run chkdsk /scan to find the problems and and queue them for repair.

    chkdsk /scan finds now problems

SFC runs clean as does DISM

I do have a UPS app running for my CyberPower UPS maybe I should uninstall that or should I refresh once again???

Obvious thing to try: check your disk(s) (Crystal Diskinfo or better Hard Disk Sentinel (covers SSDs too) ).

Just launch and look, select disk as necessary.

    Just installed the CrystalDiscInfo.
Not sure how to decode all the info, but health status states good.

Ok, assuming you've looked at both disks... (you need to click on a tab)..

Did chkdsk (first one you mentioned) offer to run on restart, and if so, did you let it?
You could simply start it from here:

No CHK did not offer to run on restart.
CrystalDiskInfo did look at both discs. Both show OK.

My C disc indicated Health status of with a Good 77% thought maybe the 77% was drive space left?
My C drive is 231 GB and using only 113 GB.
CHKDSK while windows was running does find the previous mentioned errors. CHKDSK /scan does not

If you haven't used the option as in my post #4 and chkdsk reports errors then open an admin command prompt and run

    chkdsk /f /r /x

    - Scans the file system and its sectors, and fixes any errors found. If needed, this also disconnects the drive.

Bear in mind that to fix the file system whilst it is in use isn't possible, so if errors are found, you will be prompted to restart, when chkdsk will run after the restart.

(The 77% refers to drive health/life remaining. Hard Disk Sentinel puts all this in English for you).

dalchina took me a bit to run the chkdsk as requested as my system suddenly would not boot. Finally after getting it to boot I entered the chkdsk /f /r /x command and the chkdsk operation started.

System then rebooted and seems to be stable, but time will tell. I took a look at the log, but being unfamiliar I wasn't perfecrlty sure I was interpreting it correctly. I did see some instance of a repair.

My eyes are bugging out of my head at this point so I'll resume tomorrow. I'll report back.

joeandmarg0 yes I should have said that many times the system was crashing repeatedly before I even got to Windows at other times I could boot into Windows but would get a blue screen of death shortly after opening a browser.

    @smalltown

Basically, chkdsk repairs what it can, then flags (marks), bad areas of the drive so Windows won't use those parts, anymore.

    Thanks for the clarification.
In the Search box, start typing ---reliability ---and access Reliability History.
The crashes should have red-flagged entries for each occurrence and the ---view tech details ---give the cause.
Is the cause a common event or are there multiple causes ?
