    HP Pavilion no power

My wife has an HP Pavilion all in one model 22. All of a sudden, it won't boot. I unplugged everything and have it taken apart where I can see the motherboard. When plugged in, there's a blank screen, no noise, or fan spinning and I do see a small light near where the power cord plugs in

I have it facing me with the power button in front on my left and the disk drive in the back. I unplugged the ribbon cable from the power button and was told I could short out pin 2 and 4 to bypass the power button. It didn't work. Pin 1 is to my left.

I followed the ribbon cable to the motherboard and was told I could use a flat head screwdriver to short out the pins going into the mother board. I'm afraid to try that since I wonder what pins 1 and 3 are for. A flat head screwdriver would connect all 4 pins.

If pin 1 and 3 are dummy pins then that's ok. If it still won't come on after shorting out those pins on the motherboard, I assume it's a bad power supply.

I've spent hours on Google and YouTube. I'm used to a standard Desktop this one has everything inside the monitor case. It has a power adapter and charger that connects into the wall and into the computer. I'm not sure if that's the power supply. When I open the computer I see a fan, but no one has said the power supply is in the computer. And with that small light on, does that mean the power supply is ok? I do have a cheap volt meter for testing if needed

These HP's seem to be bad about the power button going out, many have said this. So I assume it's either the power supply or the power button. I tried the reset by holding the power button and also holding the Windows key and B. The HP community support website is pitiful - no response from HP. Any web resources or suggestions would be welcome.

    Is this your computer?

In product specifications, expand power supply.

    Power Supply
    External 90W (100V-240V)
    Total wattage: 90W
Nominal input voltage range: 100-240V (50-60Hz)
    Dimensions: 134 mm x 58 mm x 31 mm (5.2 x 2.2 x 1.2 inches)
    Output voltage: 19.5V

Check the voltage on the adapter is 19.5 volts, if not, there are brand new ones for sale on eBay for $11.50 to $13.50 with free shipping.

It's the cheapest way to see if you can repair it. If it's not the power adapter, then it's probably not worth repairing.

Also, examine where the adapter plugs into the computer, sometimes the plug socket gets damaged and loses electrical contact.

Yes that link is the computer. So it looks like that external small rectangular box is the power supply and charger and it's not in the computer. Is that what you think?

If you notice it states power supply "External" meaning the adapter is the power supply.

These types of computers are similar to laptops, but without a battery and a keyboard/mouse attached.

If you replace the adapter, and it still is not working you can certainly try bypassing the power switch with a jumper.

If it's getting 19.5 volts of power, the fan is spinning and the screen is black, it could be a burned-out LCD panel, the monitor part.

Just in case, make sure the toggle switch on the power adapter is turned on.

Try replacing the CMOS battery normally a CR2032. These can suddenly fail or drop to a low voltage which can cause a PC to fail to boot.
