I noted in my earlier post that these updates in the background started happening after I installed the april security updates, so it wasn't normal for me until now. Something in the march/april updates changed this behaviour.

It's always been so. Nothing new there- unless there was something defective in your O/S that prevented that happening, or you had something configured to stop it happening.

Yes, what I had configured was the Store's setting to never update apps automatically. This setting allows all UWP apps to be updated in the background. The setting now only applies to apps, not what Store categorizes as system components. The preinstalled UWP software includes both categories, Store itself is one of the system components and so are the Game Bar and Windows Tips, etc. Windows Feedback Hub, probably Photos and Calculator and of course all third-party softwares are apps and won't update automatically if the setting is active. If you expand the Store library window past a certain size, the categories will appear.

I tried the Visual C++ repair twice and total reinstall of all versions installed once last week but couldn't fix the error.
So congratulation to Meeker Morgan and i486, you must have done something correctly!

I, for one, decided to cheat and clean reinstall Windows 10 a few days ago, the error no longer registered.
    Peace.

Sorry. It happened again just now.
Though I think the C++ fix was still needed.

For now, just back to waiting for the next update.

Do you get this error even if you don't use the startmenu, except maybe to shut down? I've been using the taskbar, right-clicking on the pinned icons and fiddling with the wifi menu also, and so far I haven't had the error since I logged in as admin and cast the powershell script there. Oh, and also using the startmenu to shut down. My OCD prevents me from accessing the settings through startmenu, for now. I don't like seeing errors or unnecessary system drive bombardment in the form of error logging.

Meeker Morgan, wish you luck the next month's Patch Tuesday, or this month's preview, rectifys the error.

i486, my case the culprit were the Start Menu as it seemed the error logged when I clicked the Start Menu's items.
I found the Start Menu's right click responded slowly and sometimes needed to click a few times to open.
I, too, dislike errors and warnings populating in Event Viewer and always try to rectify if possible or else just make it not to show in the Event Viewer.

rephlex, I used an USB flash drive made with Windows 10 installation media tool. It's 22H2 the the last one.
Then updated to the latest 19045.4291 online Windows Update.
Note in place update does not work to fix the error, I know, I have done it twice in the last 2 weeks.
