    Wierd fault

Hi everybody i have a strange fault with my windows 10 PC. It will run fne for a few days and then it will lock up, the mouse works but nothing else will and clicking on an icon on the desktop does nothing I need to switch the PC off at the mains. It mainly seems to happen when i leave the PC unattended for a while or when i am watching a video.

I have run device manager and it shows no faults

Win version 22H2 (os build 19045-4170

Run this in cmd next time it happens.

    Code:
    wevtutil qe Application "/q:*[System[(Level=1 or Level=2 )]]" /c:10 /rd:true /f:text > %temp%\elog.txt && %temp%\elog.txt
it will create a text file in your temp folder and list the last ten errors to occur. Hopefully it sheds some light.

The gui is locking up the mouse still moves but nothing is interactive could suggest explorer.exe but hard to say really.

Do you really have to unplug it from mains? Doesn't it suffice hitting reset or power on/off? (the BIOS might have an option to power off after holding the power on/off button pressed some seconds instead of just pressing it normally)

If the problem is freezing, as seems the case, then once again- there are many threads on freezing - please feel free to search tenforums for ideas as to what you might try.

History: (so often not give by posters) - did this start after any particular change - hardware or software?

As it's normally non-diagnostic, all you can do is to substitute and eliminate, and run diagnostic and stress tests in the hope something shows up (see threads). Could be hardware or software - even the PSU.

Are you overclocking? Do you have mismatched RAM? (It's easy to find specs- tutorial available).
Have you run a RAM check? Disk check - 3rd party program)?

See this current thread on freezing:
System will randomly hard freeze, no errors

In Powershell [admin ],type in ---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ---and when completed, then type in ---sfc /scannow ---and run it until a clean report is given.
Also check Reliability History for entries which might help to identify the problem.

One point if you power off the disk may then have problems as it may not have written data in memory so a disk check is a good starting point

Find out if reinstalling your display driver makes any difference.

Find out if rebooting every day holds the problem at bay.

    Best of luck,

    Weird...
I have an app called Macro Express. It randomly causes my computer to freeze at the most random times until I close the application. Opening it again within a short time causes the same exact thing. Restarting the computer is usually the solution. Maybe you have an app that's doing this exact thing:
Windows Explorer freezing a lot recently.
