Search Icon on Taskbar Not Working

Suddenly I can't do any searches using the taskbar eyeglass icon on my Win10 computer. When I hover over it, I see the words "Type here to search", but it won't let me type anything. I tried the Search Troubleshooter but that didn't help.

My Windows 10 Home version is 22H2.

Thanks in advance for any help/guidance.

Thank you for the explicit instructions, Brink. I will try them later this evening and post back.

Brink, I ran into some problems using Windows 10. First, it would not accept wt in the run box. However, I think I got to an elevated command prompt by typing in cmd.

But then when I downloaded, saved and unblocked the ps1 file, I got the error message shown in the attachment.

Brink, I stand partially corrected. Before I was not actually in the Windows Terminal (Admin). so I tried again successfully. But this time I got a different error message as shown in the attachment.

You might find the tenforums tutorial easier to follow:
Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10
    Option 3

Considering the instructions in the Win 11 tutorial, did you put the file you downloaded on your desktop?
That's where the command you used expects it to be.

@ FreeBooter - Thanks for all your suggestions. I tried all of them except for re-indexing, but none of them worked.

@ delchina - Thanks for your reply. Yes, I put the downloaded file on my desktop. Before I try your Option 3, I was hoping that Brink would tell me how to correct the error I was getting when using his tutorial. Now, perhaps the only thing I didn't do properly when following Brink's tutorial was to Unblock the downloaded ps1 file. I never saw where to do that, and when I clicked on the downloaded file it went straight to my Notepad. What does it mean to 'Unblock' a file?

I want to thank everyone for trying to help me fix my Search function, as I use it often.

What does it mean to 'Unblock' a file?
No one should need to tell you- click on the blue text Unblock - it's a hyperlink.

    C:\Users\bbarr\Desktop\

Try copying and pasting that into file explorer's address bar.

Then check you see the ps1 file listed.

I.e. is it really where it's expected to be?

Do you have the downloaded file on your desktop?
