My thought: OneDrive and other cloud storage is fine for holding copies of data that one may want access to when traveling away from the office but I've not yet been convinced of the constant availability/reliability of access to the storage site/s or security of them for critical use. I have USB HDDs for storage plus a NAS drive on my home LAN.

The police handles domestic issues not invasion of peoples privacy.

Hard drives are good for recovery but despite that if not properly stored. Can be fatal.

SSD on the other hand seems to be a more reasonable option.

I do not like the idea of being cheap anymore. If you have 20TB then you have a 20TB to backup that . If you use traditional platter drives make sure it is kind that does not fold.

CMR > SMR drives ? SMR are consumer based ( Meta / Expendable / does not matter ) while CMR drives can be louder and use more wattage is superior and used in Servers. I ask myself "Why can't I find certain files I know I have but seems to be gone". I am starting to think my SMR options failed me.

Western Digital apparently lied about there technology and cost many servers to have problems loaded with SMR drives. The biggest problem is the labeling. There is also another problem with WD self-wiping SSDs ??? associated with Sandisk. I ask myself why is almost every machine loaded with WD blue drive. Oh that is why. Cheap ( Cost effectiveness ).

I would not "buy that for a dollar"...WD

I've been running a 2TB WD Green Label HDD as a Data drive in the Desktop I got in Apr. '22, no issues with Win11. It came out of a NAS box from a few years before that which had software security issues and no 'fix' for it. The only thing with re-purposing such drives is in the formatting, has to be cleaned.
