Cheaterslick. I usually get them on eBay - being careful to only buy from private sellers with a good reputation. Never had an issue yet. Bree has always suggested Cash Converters - they usually have quite a selection too. Recently bought a 10th generation HP Pavilion 14 core i7 and some nvidia graohics for £360. It only has 8gb ram but I know that model has upgradeable ram so I’ll be putting 16gb in. It’s maybe not the most exciting of laptops but suits me for everything needed - including some light video editing. There are plenty of core i5 8gb 10th gen HP pavilions second hand. The thing with those models though is they came with a 500gb Optane drive - which is a huge pain - I take those out and replace with a standard M2 drive and clean install. So it could mean having to buy an M2 drive as well. But there are plenty without Optane drives.

I think £360 for a three to four year old computer (that has has very little use) isn’t bad. On the other hand for £600 you can get a new core i5 hp pavilion 14. I just didn’t want to spend that and had a spare M2 from a dead laptop.

Don’t think the new ones have upgradeable ram though.

Whatever will be, ill be interested in using the Ai tools, for study and productivity generally speaking.

Copilot, Cortana 2.0 data mining venture that knows everything you do, when you use the computer and what for. its digging into your data so that it can copilot for you while learning about you in real time.

The surveillance to come this is sky net in the making.

You are the exact demographic they are targeting. Lapping it up because it sounds cool to you without actually thinking about the ramifications to come. This is heavily uncharted waters we are entering on a scale that could end society in many ways. Full lock down
control to the point that the internet becomes censored heavily.

We already know AI is a learning model it likes to learn things and it is already X levels smarter than humans and it knows things that took humans millions of years to articulate.

Its going to be our down fall on many levels. Estimated 1 billion users on windows 10 so the net is wide for the model to improve drastically each day.

When the time comes and we have to pair our real world credentials to the computer then it will be a sad day.

Computing has been about protecting your data your lan your gateway but AI inside the lan is counterintuitive to al that you are letting something inside your house that wants to know everything about you and mimic you and be you.

Another area that people are not thinking about is generation Alpha, the first Generation in human kind that is coming from the womb surrounded by technology. They will grow up thinking this stuff is normal.

Most of us on here recall the land line phone and some on here will be old enough to see color TV come in to existence and then a small percentage probably saw it go from radio to TV.

its gen Alpha and the tech is lining up to that in its infancy. We are only at the start and AI is already pretty smart for its short existence its like the eqivilant of a 10 year old human building a rocket ship to the moon or some shit currently and it only got a degree in aerospace engineering last week and also passed with high distinction.

When I was young we had no phone- period. Oh, and no TV, no fridge, no car and originally no electric washing machine.

This is the first one I remember- and the mangle was motorised!

In 1958 we moved into a detached house- no furniture in the front room or the back bedroom- coal fire, and the flannels froze on the edge of the bath in winter.

The first TV came when I was about 10 perhaps.. 405 lines, black & white. Valves.

Now, consider what people on benefits expect to have as minimum today...

Oh, and I still use my land line- but that's going digital - VOIP- this spring... the advantage being that should the power fail, the phone doesn't work. One of the advantages of modern technology I guess.

yeah overall the world is going into dark times inflation is going to set in to the point that most things we take for granted now are going to be a luxury. Just look at America as as a whole the poverty there is on mass scale with tent cities being an issue in most major cities.

Sounds like a good way to take over a society and the 1% dominate through AI and technology. Countless movie timelines already but it could happen.

rape society of its fundamentals and then there is AI enforcers walking around like robocop but not good. There was a time where man did for himself but that is long gone since about the industrial revolution.

Half the people will be useless because there is to many people and AI is way more smarter than us. Poverty on mass scale.

Nuralink is already showing us that they want AI inside our brains. and its in the real world.

Generation alpha in a nutshell, a generation of people living inside a fake reality.

We didn't get electricity on the farm as I was growing up until around '46 or '47, had a Maytag washing machine with a kick-start 2-stroke engine with a flex-pipe running out the washroom wall, hand-pumped Windmill next to the house, running water was how fast two legs could go. Had a hand-cranked phone on the wall with partyline and battery-powered radio, fuel-oil furnace under the ground floor with grates in the floors.

Co pilot can be removed from the task bar quite easily

Still have my landline but I think it will be turned off next year and VOIP only. Considering the number of storms and power cuts we get these days, I am hanging onto my landline as long as possible! Two years ago, it was the only thing that worked during a four day power cut!

You can get battery backup for the routers, apparently.. but of course that + power for external equipment only lasts so long...

Welcome to the new Dark Age of VOIP and AI ... and expect rolling blackouts in Britain as more fixed plant is decommissioned... and wind power is built waiting 13 years to be connected- while we pay them not to generate.

yeah it can be turned off but that won't be the case for many because they like the feature. This is the animated paperclip we saw years ago but except its smart.

Computer still cannot do RNG properly but this thing is almost sentient if they find a way for it to do proper RNG and not pseudo RNG then we are screwed it has become sentient.
