Since it is not a bug - John should create a new thread so other members can help get his shortcut straightened out. That way the Win10 bug thread isn't cluttered with a one off.

How about that John - creating a new thread?
There is absolutely no need for that. Read again what he wrote:

The only way I can read that is that after upgrading to Build 9926 he had shortcuts from a previous build pointing to Control Panel module Windows Update, which as already told is no longer working. Only thing he has to do is to update the old or create new shortcuts, with correct target.

ou can start Windows Update directly from Run dialog ( key + R) with command WUAPP.EXE. Accordingly, you can also create a shortcut for it to desktop (C:\Windows\System32\WUAPP.EXE).

No longer... This just brings up a listing for "The Internet". All my old "check for updates" shortcuts now error out with this:

We should probably go drinking together some time Kari.

Here's how I read John's reply to your suggestion of using WUAPP in a shortcut or in Run:

I understand 'Only thing he has to do is' - it sounded to me as though he tried and failed using WUAPP in Run.

I won't reply in your bug thread to John's issue again. I appreciate your attention to detail and would rather not be party to taking it off topic.

If John is still having difficulty creating a shortcut to WUAPP, he can open a thread if he chooses. I'll be more than glad to lend a hand helping him find a solution.

    Hi geeks.

As any pre-release test version of any operating system, Windows 10 Technical Preview has some bugs, some of them known already, some of them will be found as more users get active and start testing. One of the main reasons Microsoft released this Tech Preview so early is to get feedback from users, not only about how we like the user interface and new features but also to find errors and bugs in order to be able to fix them before the official release.

Let's do our own share as an active Windows 10 community. Please post here any bugs, errors and curiosities you'll find, I will add your entries to list and keep it up to date. Do not forget to report any bugs you find to Microsoft too using the Windows Feedback app in your Start Menu.

Bugs, errors and other strange stuff we've found:

    • Taskbar not keeping its set size after reboot or sign out / sign in (post #2)
    • Font size cannot be changed in Start Menu, too small in higher resolutions (post #3)
    • Taskbar Auto Hide not working properly (post #5)
    • Taskbar navigation properties not working (post #6)
    • Home link in Explorer cannot be expanded (post #15)
    • Redundant links to external storage devices in Explorer (post #15)
    • Start Menu versatility issues (post #18)
    • Upgrade install from Windows 7, Charms bar appearing randomly (post #19)
    • Some connectivity issues using IE11 / Windows 10 (post #20 and post #21)
    • Some users have issues with MS account verification (post #31)
    • Auto hide Taskbar not restored from the bottom left corner, pointer have to be right of the Start, Search and Task View buttons to restore (post #34)
    • Command Prompt font, bold cannot be applied to all fonts (post #16 and post #50)
    • Pixelated icons on notifications (post #65)
    • After adding several virtual desktops the Add button disappears to right, no longer visible (post #65)
    • Pop-up description texts partly hidden (post #75)
    • User selected Input Language not always applied after sign in (post #103)
    • "Show screen overlay when Snipping Tool is active" in Snipping Tool not working (post #123)
    • Network connections to Windows 10 from XP / 7 / 8, connectivity issues (post #125)
    Hi back Kari,
By this point I think we need to be very specific which build the complaint refers to. This is for 9926: I can no longer print using my wireless printer since build 9926. The printer wizard finds the printer, but won't install, error #1801 . Troubleshooter no help, firewall shows files and print unchecked, try to allow pass through, it ignores change setting. This is a serious problem for a notebook with no ethernet connection. Has worked flawlessly through all previous builds. (Quoted from Feedback app.)
    Any suggestions?

    edit -- I guess I missed about 47 pages before I posted. Sorry .

I still have a problem with the updates. There seems to be no way to deselect updates and prevent installation. And the update history is pretty well hidden in the 'Advanced Options'. Besides, that whole update UI is pretty miserable.

    Latecomer...

Bullet #3 and #11 are redundant I think and # 3 appears to have been fixed in 9926.

One annoying bug I have come across is if I have the taskbar set to autohide and the search bar on it, if I bring up the start menu it opens up over the task bar except that the search bar still appears on top of the start menu. This seems like it might be a neat feature, but you can't type anything into the search bar - it is non-functional with the start menu up.

I have this problem and I dont know if its a bug or if I'm doing something wrong. I have several apps that I like to have on the start screen, however, when I try to drag them to the start screen, they wont stay, they just return to the app list. I've even gone as far as reinstalling the os, without any succest. Any help would be appreciated

Try what caperjack suggested - that's the easiest.

Note: You can pin the shortcut or pin the exe in Program files to Start.

I'm finding that I have to reinstall some programs. The links are gone, but the Program Files (or x86 versions) are still there. Depending on the program, I might only have to pin the shortcut in the All users Start menu back on Start or re-install the program. I haven't found any programs that no longer work in 9926, only that the update seems to have cleaned up everything that isn't Microsoft.

If you right click on a desktop program on your Start Screen and pick Open file location, it should take you to the All Users Start Menu. See if your links are under Programs or a sub folder. Then right click the shortcut and pin to Start.

It might take a sign-out / sign-in before the tile shows up though. If the tile doesn't appear after that, try launching the program from the All Users Start Menu folder. If it doesn't launch, re-install that program (repair might work if it is offered when you uninstall, I haven't tried that)

Folders I pin to quick access don't remain that way.
