Please notice that the way I told it to be is at the moment just how I understand it to be, how it seems to be in my Build 9860. It is in no way meant to be taken as a fact as long as it is not confirmed.

If you set it as mine screenshot shows, the Home view remains empty. I do not want the Home view to show the recent items, that's why I have disabled it. As far as I know you must select the recent items checkbox, then reboot to get Home view populated.
Tried all of the possible combinations, restarting between - nada.

I might come back to this, but I still think it's the wrong place to control the option for the Home location (start menu tab ... start menu references).

I previously reported the empty Home location and was hoping that I could provide more information based on your input. To be honest, I've had some issues with 9860, so I'm going to wait for the next bld and test Home on that.

I have a number of Systray images (2 bmp and 2 png ) in my Temp folder - they look like Action Center icons (feedback reported).

I recently, just before typing my previous post, had a Notification stating "Turn on Security Center", when I clicked on that, a missing shortcut dialog opened and then a Problem with Shortcut dialog (fix, delete, cancel) - the fix pointed to explorer.exe and wanted to replace it with the nearest match C:\windows\Explorer.exe. The dialog did not clearly state what shortcut was broken. I clicked fix and an explorer opened at the Home location (no feedback reported-but I have it ready). There are only 3 images in my Temp folder now (2 bmp and 1 png)

I'll rework this post so it conforms to a short descriptive line followed by the details. This is more of an answer to an existing post than a new Win10 bug post.

A secondary issue came to mind when I looked at the image of my Home location from the previous bld. I obviously stuck a shortcut of my Favorites (links) in Home and I believe I also stuck other links (my user profile, documents, pictures... and a few often used shortcuts to files). I tried to copy any file into Home, then tried shortcuts, then tried right click (in the main pane, not the navigation pane) where I noticed inactive menu picks paste and paste shortcut. Anyway, nothing I tried could put anything in the Home Location. I might check the Security of ????? - where/what is Home
Sorry about thinking out loud in this post, but another thought just occurred to me - I'm logged in with a MS account. I'll try the local account to see what happens.

    Thanks,

    Bill

The 'Home' folder seems to be an 'Animal of a different breed'!
I see it as big 'Jump List' so to speak.
The parent entry in the Registry seems to be:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{679f85cb-0220-4080-b29b-5540cc05aab6}
    and
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{679f85cb-0220-4080-b29b-5540cc05aab6}

but it apparently has many other location associations.

You could try experimenting with it's attributes and see what comes of it.
I got rid of the entry from the navigation pane, except for the placeholder, but I messed up 'File Explorer' pretty bad!

Thanks, Home is a different animal indeed - thanks for the registry information.
HKCR is a reference to HKLM\Classes\CLSID
You might look there. I think I've broken my machine enough with regards to Home, so I'm staying out of the registry

I'm thinking of Home the same way I think of Libraries - also a different animal. Libraries has some eccentricities when different views are selected. Since Home is a new feature, I'm not too concerned about it at the moment. I'll continue to play with it and report feedback as I discover anything, but being a preview bld, things will be buggy, especially when I'm apllying registry changes based on previous Windows releases. Put a preview bld and registry tweaks together and odd things are to be expected.

I'm going to send feedback to MS re: bld delivery. I don't want to have to start at 9841 and reload 9860 and then 9865 (or what ever the next bld is versioned) just to get a new clean base. I'll ask that 9865 be available as an ISO download. MS has to test the ESD version, which I will do first. But to get a clean install, I'd rather get it from the horses mouth than build a DIY version. We shall see... MS has been very responsive acting on feedback I've given, at least it appears that way to me. Some things I've reported outside of the bld, but related (Bing) are fixed in minutes. Now if they fix/remove that search icon (don't use the Modern search which is tied to Bing) on the taskbar in the next release I'll be happy. Desktop search should use Windows search, Modern search should use... well Modern search, it would be nice too if they allow users to configure search in defaults, but that might be asking too much :)

I had set up Home to include things that I would like to change on my machine. I put all of my user profile folders in there so I could lose the Desktop icon for User and lose Favorites on the explorer navigation pane. In testing, the taskbar explorer icon would take me Home if Libraries was not shown on the navigation pane or to Libraries (normal) if Libraries were shown. This was fine and expected behavior. Shawn has a Win7 tutorial on how to change the location selected by the Taskbar explorer icon (I didn't look at it yet bc I was ok with the behavior, but it might provide a clue).

But I can't put anything in Home.

Can anyone with a 'working' Home location put other objects in Home?
Copy any shortcut, right click in the folder pane of Home, select paste shortcut?

Changing to a local account did not change anything (Home still shows MT folder), but it was worth a shot.

I looked in and around \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch and also \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries thinking that might be where some Home object might be, but nothing jumped out.

    This was interesting:
After having dickered up WTP so bad with aggresive hacks and trying to get rid of the 'Home' folder, I got a BSOD this afternoon; restart numbers one and two were a no go then on the third try it went into 'System Diagnosis' then 'Attempting Repairs...' and success. Did that twice now, the whole proccess took about 10 - 15 minutes for a complete refresh; I thought that was kinda nifty!

    @ Slartybart:
Can't add anything to the 'Home' folder or cut/copy anything from it either. Under Properties, the elements in there don't even have a 'Type' listing. I'm thinking they reside in this 'so called' folder from a dynamic cache file source of some sort.

If you turn windows defender off, you cannot re-enable it without going to the registry. Action center does not work when clicking turn on.

I can turn off and on Windows Defender real time protection in the Windows Defender Settings window.
I tested this with WTP as a VM (VMware Player) using the 9860 Build as a clean install from the "9860 ESD ISO"...
I didn't need to go into the registry.

I just noticed a change in the new Notifications Area icon ...
Seems WTP did notify me, from my playing around with this ...
