Even after clean up, defrag etc. in my VM things are close to unusable. Often the desktop and windows jump around, tray icons still take forever to appear etc..

At least on my setup it seems a step backward. I restored the first build from an image for messing around. But it's still way slower than using W7 32 or 64 bit in a VM.

I wonder if that Start Screen stuff creates another layer or something.

Did you also defrag the physical partition? Worth a shot.

    Okay MS, c'mon!!!
What's with the cluttered navigation pane???
Try this: open the three explorer shortcuts (user, This PC, and Taskbar)
change folder options to NOT expand to current location
collapse all of the navigation pane locations (I had to do this in each explorer window open)
close each explorer (saves expanded/collapsed status) - just make sure all navigation pane locations are collapsed.

This is from Win8, but it's the same in Win10 (locations are different - User opens Home and Taskbar opens Home or Libraries (if shown))

Win10 is a bit buggy with explorer since they've added the Home location - but I like the changes. I had win95 set up sort of like this with shortcuts on the desktop. I even called it Home - lol.

Yeah,I did the 3 step method VMWare suggests.. inside the vm, shut down and defrag using vmware tools, then defrag the partition the vm is on.

My Win 10 x64 VM was very slow and I thought it was because this VM folder is on a spinner HD.

I disabled the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service.

That made a big improvement for me.

I triple boot my PC (W7, XP & Linux Mint 17).

My W10 TP VM (VMware Player running on LM17) seems as fast as (if not faster than) my W7 install.

My W7 install has slowed down (a lot) during the past 6 months.

    Thanks. I'll try that.

What I found that helps with stuff like that in FF: Turning cache up, mine is set to 650MB and turning off automatic Flash updates, many times it cracked during search for or updating it.
How does one turn the cache up?
