Not a single restore point has been created yet. Doesn't create one if I do Windows Update or install a program. This just bit me in the butt when I tried Aero Glass for Windows 8.1 and got in a error message loop about DWM not matching Aero Glass.

There should be a restore point created when the install completes and you login for the first time and every time a program is installed as well as every time you apply a windows Update.

Here's how you snip a region of a popup:
    1. Run Snipping tool
    2. click on the drop down arrow next to "New"
    3. Select "Rectangular snip" then press <ESC>
    4. display the Popup you want to snip
    5. Crtl + Print Screen then click and drag on the region.

Ummm... that's the exact procedure that my link describes, sans step 2 & Select "Rectangular snip".

Not all Windows Updates will create a restore point, only those that MS thinks it might effect Windows functionality.
And the same for Applications where developers think they should create a restore point or prompt if you want to create one. It has been that way to all Windows versions. SO the safe way is to create it manually before trying something new.

I noticed that the Restore program was turned OFF by default.

I turned it on and made space available for the restore system points.

I still only have one restore point but, what I think is happening is,
since MS has Windows Update on Auto and you can't turn it off it's
because they need to update the OS as they get new info from the
ones trying the Tech version out. This would mean that IF you turned
the system back, you would undo the changes that MS has done as
updates or fixes to the OS.

I guess this would make sense and explain why we can't use restore .

Sorry I did not see your post but the same procedure was posted in the 8 Forums last year:

I've had no issues, have already tested system restore which worked without an issue.

2 and 3 are needed if Rectangular region was not selected previously

That's why on the next capture, you only need step 4 and 5
    You're right, my bad!

I usually use Greenshot, a one click process, but haven't installed it yet.

Greenshot - a free and open source screenshot tool for productivity

    Snipping Tool is almost there!

I'm in the process of doing a clean install again. Aero Glass for Windows 8.1 trashed my install and there were no, 0, nada, restore points.

This is in a Oracle VB client.

I'll check for restore points after the install completes. Maybe it's something to do with running as a VM????

Refresh does not work, at least it did not work for me running Win 10 TP X64 under Oracle VB. This was a clean install under Oracle VB.
