Take Ownership of HDD Physically Moved From Win7 to Win10

    22H2 (OS Build 19045.3448)

I want to clone a data storage only hard disk drive (no OS files on the disk) used in my Win7/Pro x64 tower to a data storage SSD in my Win10/Pro x64.

Can I do this without changing the ownership of the Win 7 drive?

I have tried physically moving the Win7 drive into a bay in my Win10/Pro x64. It seems I can copy data if I grant permission on a folder by folder basis, but taking ownership of the whole drive has proved frustrating.

I would like to take ownership of the drive under Win10/Pro with the option of returning to ownership under Win7.

I've tried the Sevenforums ownership tutorial (Take Ownership Shortcut | Tutorials) with no success. I've tried MS instructions. I've had no success.

What is the most efficient way to accomplish the task?

    Copy the whole partition...

    e.g. use
    - a partition manager such as Minitool Partition Wizard
    - Macrium Reflect

    etc

It may take a long time but take ownership of the whole drive another way is to use free partition software to convert to fat32 that removes all security and it's simple to convert back

I have never had a problem with it. I move disks from one machine to another without any issues.

Drag and Drop of Copy and Paste all of the files from the old drive to the new drive.
    You can use FastCopy FastCopy
If you need to, you can Take Ownership of the Windows 7 drive, you probably just need to click OK.
